“COLORS OF UNITY”
by Man One
“I grew up surround by art, music, theatre, expression and play. . . . When I moved to the USA and learned that so many of the precious children I met didn’t have access to all of this I had to do something.” —Georgia Van Cuylenburg, Founder, Arts Bridging the Gap (ABG)
Man One honed his graffiti skills on the streets of Los Angeles, before taking the next step as artist and art historian at Loyola Marymount University. Also a strong believer in the transformative power of art and its ability to transcend culture and socio-economic barriers, Man One happily joined forces with ABG, lending his bold, colorful style to this October, 2017 project at Wilcox and Fountain in Hollywood. Beyond just putting paint on a wall, Man One joined the kids in a multi-week workshop, and he says it was truly a community event further supported by Councilman David Ryu, the LA Department of Cultural Affairs, and the Hollywood Police Activities League. @manoneart @artsbridgegap @davideryu @culture_la @hollywoodpal

“GRAFFITI SPIRIT OF L.A. RENAISSANCE“
by Man One
In the Aztec pantheon Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent, was the god of wind and the dawn and the patron god of the priesthood responsible for learning and knowledge as well as the arts. On this 2017 wall in the Arts District Park at the corner of Hewitt and 5th in Los Angeles, Man One depicts a modern version of Quetzalcoatl wielding brushes and spray cans, with halo and wings representing the City of Angels. Man One says the bridge featured prominently on the left is a nod to the reconstruction of the historic 6th Street bridge nearby. Growing up in Los Angeles Man One developed his love of art on the streets and, reflecting the theme of this mural, says he is a strong believer in the “transformational power of art and its power to save lives and make the world a better place.” @manoneart
