American Heart Association Virtual Heart Walk
Dr. Marc Gerdisch is presently the chief of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at Franciscan St. Francis Heart Center. His first priority is to ensure that patients receive the cardiac care they need, and he helps them find the plan that will work best for them prior to surgery or other procedures. Outside of work, Dr. Marc Gerdisch supports a number of charities, and participated in the American Heart Association (AHA) Heart Walk for the Indianapolis team in 2014. The AHA organizes Heart Walks in numerous cities across the United States to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease and what can be done to improve overall heart and cardiovascular health. Not every city has a Heart Walk, which is why the AHA developed a Virtual Heart Walk for those who cannot find one close to where they live. The Virtual Heart Walk allows individuals to create a customized fundraising page with an end goal of a certain amount of money raised. Anyone can raise funds through friends and family, social media, or other means of promoting the project. This allows would-be supporters to be part of the organization’s fund raising efforts, even if they cannot make it to a nearby event.
