Flowers

Summary: After seeing posts on Instagram, you struggle with your self-confidence. Tom is there to help you with a surprise.

“(y/n)!” Tom called excitedly as he entered your apartment. He carried a bouquet of your favorite flowers behind his back. It might’ve been a bit cliché, but it didn’t matter. He searched around for you, glancing quickly at the kitchen, dining area, and lounge area. He closed the door behind him and ventured in, setting his keys down on the little side table by the door like he always did. Your set of keys were there too, he knew you were home. He walked down the short hallway and could hear your music and the water running in the bathroom, so he turned silently and walked back to the lounge area.

He set the flowers down on the coffee table, making sure none of the flowers were crushed as he did so. He flipped on the tv and started surfing through channels, ignoring the news and ironically finding that a Marvel movie was on. It was halfway through, but it’s not like he hasn’t already seen it - or taken part in it. He sighed and closed his eyes, listening to the distant sounds of your music from the bathroom, and he was almost certain that he could hear you humming along.

It took him a few moments to realize that you weren’t listening to your usual upbeat shower playlist. No, this music was gloomier, sadder than your normal music. Something was wrong, and Tom started to get nervous.

It was nothing that Tom had done, of course, it was all you. And that was the problem. You. But Tom wouldn’t understand that. You stood in the shower, listening to music you never would normally listen to in the shower, but you didn’t feel like listening to anything else. Your mood was effectively ruined.

For whatever reason, today Instagram, and just social media in general, set you off. It was very off-putting to scroll through Instagram for thirty minutes and see picture after picture of little miss perfect standing at the beach in her bikini, or miss sunkissed skin posing perfectly for the picture, knowing exactly how to show herself off.

You looked down at your body.

Too tall.

Too wide.

Too pale.

Too big.

Not enough.

The words started swimming in your head, getting to the point where you couldn’t hear anything but the intruding thoughts. The music blurred in the background. You could no longer feel the water as if your skin were numb. You couldn’t even tell if the water was hot or cold at this point. All you knew is that you were trembling and you needed to get out of the shower. You turned off the water and stepped out, wrapping yourself in a towel and walking to the mirror.

Tom heard the water shut off in the bathroom followed by your music. He waited until he heard the bathroom door open to stand up.

“(y/n),” he called down the hallway. He grabbed the flowers again and hid them behind his back. You walked out of the bathroom in your robe and looked up to see Tom standing in the hallway.

“Oh! One second, let me change real quick!” You squirmed as he watched you. You tried your best to hide your face. You knew your eyes were still puffy. But he saw them anyway. And the worry in his stomach grew even more. You closed the bedroom door behind you before he could say anything.

Tom just stood there in the hallway waiting for you. He tightened his grip on the bouquet of flowers. He heard you rustle around in your room, before opening the door wearing your usual sweats and t-shirt. You smiled at him, which slightly settled his unease.

He pulled the flowers from behind his back and handed them to you, watched as you gasped and your entire face lit up. It made Tom happy to see you this way.

“What are these for? Did I forget something?” You panicked slightly, starting to wrack your brain for any missing details about today.

“No special reason, other than you, darling,” he grinned cheekily. You smiled and embraced him in a big hug.

“Thank you, Tom. I love these. And you, you have no idea.” you whispered, trying to keep the last part to yourself. Tom flinched a bit at the way you said this.

“What’s wrong, love?” He asked. You could see the concern wash over his face. You hated that he had to worry about you like this.

“Nothing.” You lied. The noises from the Marvel movie Tom had left going caught your attention. “Movie?” you asked. You ran to the kitchen and grabbed a vase for the flowers, setting them in the kitchen window. You really did love them.

Tom was already on the couch, and you plopped down onto the couch, making sure not to ‘plop’ down too much though. And instead of snuggling into Tom like you normally would, you kept your distance from him. Another alarm bell went off in Tom’s head, noticing the lack of contact. He started formin a plan. Something was up, he knew that much. You were hiding from him, and not even snuggling him on the couch.

Tom sat up and pulled your legs towards him. Your eyes shot open wide as he did so, but he pulled you further and kept your legs open.

“Tom I-” you started to protest, but cut yourself off when Tom rested his body on yours, his head on your stomach facing the tv, his arm draped around your thigh, thumb rubbing circles into your skin.

“I don’t know what’s going on, but I don’t want you hiding from me,” Tom said calmly. He knew you struggle with self-confidence issues. He put two and two together and waited for your response. You sighed deeply, knowing that you couldn’t keep it from him.

“I just,” you hesitated looking for the right words. “People on Instagram, they are gorgeous, and I mean gorgeous. And what am I? Too tall, too wide, too big.” You said ‘big’ with a punch that hurt your gut and made you a little nauseous. Tom’s head snapped up and his eyes met yours.

“Darling, you are nothing short of gorgeous. There is nothing wrong with being tall, or larger. That just means there’s more for me to love.” Tom kissed your stomach, around your belly button, and you giggled. He sat up and looked into your eyes. “I’m serious, (y/n). You are perfect the way you are. I don’t care about the skinny girls, I care about you. Only you.” He leans towards you and kisses you. His lips are warm and firm against yours, his body lean and strong. Your mind melts at his reassurance.

Maybe you are enough? Yeah, definitely enough.

After the hex falls and Peter gets his mind back, he goes and does his research on the world he's stuck on and he learns of the sokovia accords. he's instantly sick to the stomach because this is something his father has been working against in his own time in his universe, so knowing that he is in need to hide his abilities, Peter sticks with the name Agatha gave him in Westview, he becomes Ralph Bohner, but not the actor.

Peter, more so Ralph now finds a steady job in retail, he's a cashier at the Dollar General just barely making a living, but he's getting there. He's good and fast at his job, being promoted almost three months after getting the job. He's happy and has something to do, he doesn't still anymore, doesn't want to bring the consequences of those actions into his new life.

Though he seems to be doing fine on the outside. Inside, his mind is a mess, he's still fighting against the other two personalities that had been shoved into his head under Agatha's control and he dearly misses home. He misses his friends, misses Kurts bamfs, and the ability to give him surprise hugs. Hell, he even misses Scott and the kid's ever-annoying whining, but mostly, he misses his father. He misses the fact that he probably will never be able to tell him their relation to one another and it tugs at him every day, he's very depressed and doesn't let anyone in his new life know about it except for one, Wanda.

One day, after nearly a year of not seeing her, his twin not twin shows up at his place of work. She's shopping and no one recognizes her because of the hood pulled nearly all the way down, everyone but him. The moment he spots her Peter, not Ralph goes on break. He pulls the sad woman into the back room and hugs her with all his might. This woman, whose pain he had felt throughout his entire time in the hex knee how lonely she was because he had no one at his side. His twin had died when they were only fifteen, only a week before he had broken his father out of the Pentagon, and on top of that, he was in a time and a world that wasn't his own, that had no one else like him.

"hey, us twins gotta stick together." He would say softly as he would press a gentle kiss against the woman's forehead. The last time he had done so to his twin had been the day of her viewing. Wendy had been so motionless in her casket, he red hair laid out beneath her pale face as she laid motionless and I breathing. Her deep red dressing doing its job in hiding the bullet holes that littered the top part of her torso.

Wanda, the lonely woman. The widower and griever of her children's deaths would smile sadly and pull the silver-haired male into her arms. She would hug him tightly and let out a shaky breath as she hugged him close.

"but I don't know how to be a sister anymore." Would be spoken in a broken voice. And Peter would tense up because he vaguely remembered what it was like to be a brother now. He hadn't had his twin by his side since he was in his young teen years, and he hadn't seen his little sister since he had broken his father out of prison, but that didn't mean they couldn't learn.

"we'll learn together."
