“But like, it’s weird, right?”
“Yeah, totally! I just don’t get how she doesn’t see it!”
“There’s no way. She’s kidding. She has to be-”
“Oh shut up, shut up, she’s coming!”
“You know I can hear you, right?” Pearl said with a smile, touching down lightly on the bridge next to the very guilty-looking Gem and Impulse.
“Sorry…” Impulse muttered, scuffing his boot against the bridge.
“Pearl, this is an intervention!” Gem said decisively, nudging Impulse. Impulse shook his head at her. Gem crinkled up her face and turned back to Pearl. “Me and Impulse are staging an intervention. You need to stop with the lies!”
“The lies?” Pearl frowned and raised her eyebrows. “I’m not… lying… about anything. Well, not right now at least. What are you talking about?”
Gem nudged Impulse. “Go on, your turn.”
“Gem, we did not discuss this beforehand! It just sounds like we are accusing her of things, and that’s not the intention!” Impulse hissed. Gem stuck out her bottom lip at Impulse. “Ugh, fine, whatever. Pearl, you know how I am a dwarf and Gem is an elf?” Impulse asked Pearl.
“Yeah?”
“Okay, and please don’t take this the wrong way, but there’s no way you’re a human.” Impulse cringed as he said it.
Pearl sighed and rolled her eyes. “Guys, we’ve been over this so many times. I am not an alien. I am a human and that’s it. I appreciate that you guys think I’m super cool and unique like that, but I don’t understand where you guys are getting the alien thing from.”
Gem huffed and shook her head. “Pearlescentmoon. Your skin is literally blue.”
“That’s a normal human skin color. I know plenty of blue folks. Maybe you’re just not cultured like me.”
“Pearl, you have antenna on your head and can hear for miles!” Impulse remarked.
“What do you mean? That’s just something that some people have! Do none of you know anything about basic human anatomy?”
“Pearl, what do humans like you drive?” Gem asked.
“Flying saucers, of course! They don’t use gas or boring electricity- a great innovation of the future!”
Impulse had his head in his hands. “Pearl, what’s your opinion on tinfoil?”
Pearl shivered. “Don’t like it. Nasty stuff.”
“You’re literally an alien, Pearl!” Gem cried in exasperation, throwing her hands up in the air.
“Gem. Impulse. Aliens aren’t real. I am a human with all the human traits any other human has!” Pearl also was exasperated. “Listen, I gotta go. Me and some friends are going to go make some crop circles in some fields nearby. I’ll talk to you fools later.” She gave them a peace sign, was pulled up into a tractor beam, and was gone.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.” Impulse and Gem said at the same time.
