Discovered beneath the Temple of Masonry Altars at Altun Ha in 1968, this 10-lb carving of jadeite is more than an artifact. It is a mirror of time.
It may be the face of Kinich Ahau, the Maya Sun God… or the memory of a ruler who carried the divine.
What I carry is this: the men who uncovered it were not foreign scholars but Belizean hands — Wilhelm “Busta” Leslie and Winston Herbert. Their story deserves to be told too.
