I’m kind of loving how reactions to the second half of ‘what if Hecate killed Agatha’ are split between ‘I’d totally read that’ and ‘NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO’
- imagine Hecate in her lab late, night after night, trying to devise a potion that will reveal once and for all which sister she’s been left with, only to discover that it won’t work because they are/were identical twins
- imagine Mildred going to Ada (or is it Ada?) saying that she’s worried about Miss Hardbroom, and Ada smiling gently and telling her that sometimes people wonder after making a big decision whether they’ve made the right one, but she’s sure Miss Hardbroom will see in time that it had to be this way
- imagine Hecate trying to stitch together the bits of the twins’ backstory she’s heard from Ada, and getting desperate enough to ask Mildred what she remembers about the girls and their mother from her trip through the mists of time, hoping to find some explanation for why Ada might be reacting as she is
- imagine Ada altering her appearance just slightly--a different brooch on her cardigan, or a bit of blonde rinse in her hair--and when Hecate asks her about it, she pats her on the shoulder and says ‘oh, you know, Hecate, when Agatha was alive I was always worried about being mistaken for her, but now she’s gone I feel freer to change things about myself...wouldn’t you?’
