The 5th love interest's identity

Here is my theory regarding the 5th crush in University Life, considering Chinomiko’s post and episode 1 of the beta.

Be careful, there will be spoilers.

I have seen quite a few posts on tumblr suggesting that the 5th love interest is:

Evan (the most popular idea)

Dake

Viktor

But I honestly believe that none of them is the mysterious character, for various reasons. Evan is related to Armin and already had his future planned. Dake was always considered a "bonus flirt" and, like Evan, is quite controversial (Episode 19). Finally, Viktor was said to be restricted to the manga.

So, who is the mysterious man ?

I am almost certain it is Nathaniel.

Here is what we know about the 5th love interest (quoting Chinomiko).

It's a man ("he")

We already know him ("still wish to torture some more too")

He apparently suffered from something in MCL (see above)

Evan indeed corresponds to all of these. So does Nath. But did you notice something else?

Let's quote again.

"This brings us to the next topic, the crushes gone in Campus Life ? Yes they are.": Chino never actually says that all the crushes (aside from Castiel) are gone. She simply states that those who are indeed gone will stay gone.

"Why I chose to keep Castiel ?", and following sentences: If you read her message, you'll see that she talks about the 5th love interest in the same paragraph. That's a bit odd. Why mention the 5th crush when she's talking about the character she kept?

Maybe because she kept another one, but for a different reason than "He was the most popular character".

Also, Nathaniel is not any MCL love interest. He was one of the first two available characters (not counting Ken, who was more of a "fail" route at the beginning). With whom? Castiel.

Now, let's move on to Episode 1 of the beta.

You have several opportunities to ask about the MCL love interests during the beta. But there is only one character you will hear about twice automatically. First with Melody, then with your friends at the bar.

Nathaniel.

Each time, the conversation is short, but focuses on two things.

Nathaniel is here.

Nathaniel has changed. More specifically, he now would rather drink and party than study.

Rosalya and Melody even say "You'll see" ("Tu verras bien", in the french version).

Wouldn't that be a perfect setting for the 5th character? Someone we already know well, someone we loved, but who changed so much that even his past friends avoid him? Then, your character comes in the picture and tries to help him get out of his mess.

And the fact that he is very different now would explain why they kept him hidden all along.

At the end of the beta, Episode 1 is not over. Your character goes home alone, in a street filled with bars. We also miss one illustration, and each known love interest already has one.

I expect we'll come across Nath. It will be our last illustration, and will conclude the episode on a shocking note.

So @silver-wield and I were discussing things and why didn’t Beemoov just have the four year time skip, have Candy come to university and meet her roommate and then have MCL University follow the roommate as opposed to Candy?

Candy would still be in the story. She’d be there and she’d be able to talk about her boyfriend and how they’re at different colleges but they talk every day and visit each other all the time. Because then you’d still have your original Candy headcanon’s and assume she’s doing well with whatever boy you want.

Then, since MCL University follows the roommate (a totally new character) Beemoov could have had a full set of new love interests and wouldn’t need to write a full dissertation explaining their motives. New character, new love interests. Because it seems to me  that everyone is pissed off because this is their original Candy who is no longer with their original boy.

By having the new MC be Candy’s roommate, we can still meet and be friends with Rose and Alexy as well.

Would that not be simpler?

Chino really begrudge the APs from us, huh? This is not faire! 😣
