Took my old kiddie bookshelf, donated (some of) the old books, replaced them with new ones, and put cutesy things in to fill the space. My medical textbooks will go on the bottom shelf. Now I have to repack all the books, give it another coat of paint, and bring it to my new apartment... lol I'm not ahead of myself at all 🙃

Is how much I spent on equipment for medical school today. Well okay I guess I also got a case and screen protector for my iPad but it counts because that's how I'm planning on taking notes in med school. But other than that, I got myself: a Taylor Reflex Hammer, a Babinski Reflex Hammer, a 512 and a 128 Hz tuning fork, a pocket eye chart, a Welsh Allyn diagnostic set with an otoscope and ophthalmoscope, and a medical bag to carry it all in! Like I've said, I love shopping for school supplies, especially when they're as cool as these. Plus I just had a family graduation party so even spending this much, I'm still in the black. Have I mentioned how excited I am for med school?
I got my equipment list for med school on Friday so obviously I got super excited trying to compile everything I can! I already had the stethoscope and blood pressure cuff since I'm an EMT, and I may or may not have nabbed the gloves, gown, and opthamoloscope covers from my school but hey, I pay an absurd amount of money to go here, I might as well get something out of it! I have plans to go scrub shopping for anatomy lab (at Walmart of course) with my BFF who's going to veterinary school during senior week and then I plan on using some o dat graduation cash to buy the rest. Guys I really love shopping. Especially when it's for med school stuff. I'm way too excited about this.
Home on spring break right now sorting through stuff that I want to bring to med school because it makes me feel productive and like I’m actually doing something to prepare myself. I didn’t realize I had this many books on medicine!
I personally recommend Healing Hearts (autobiography of a female heart surgeon whoop whoop!), Intern (obvs about intern year), Medicine in Translation (an autobiography of a female doctor), and Final Exam (about coping with death). The Checklist Manifesto is also good, but more along the lines of a fun textbook. If you’re looking for a book about American Health Policy (before it changes 😒) the one that is the easiest read is Introduction to U.S. Health Policy, while Essentials of The U.S. Health Care System is a bit more dense (but has fun comics), and Understanding Health Policy is less intense and meant for physicians.
Feel free to leave any suggestions for future medical reads! I need something to do this summer...
Also, movie / relax night with Jen was quite fun last evening. Haven't seen Robin Hood: Men in Tights in quite some time. Had a blast doing that and enjoying Jen's company. Can't wait to do it again!
