Media addiction The term social media addiction is frequently seen in headlines and tossed around by television pundits. Addiction is a word that should not be used lightly to describe a set of behaviours, addiction is related to a compulsion to consume something or engage in a set of behaviours to the point that it significantly interferes with a persons life. Addiction a state characterised by compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli despite adverse consequences. Technology began to change very rapidly in the 20th century. After the first super computers were created in the 1940s, scientists and engineers began to develop ways to create networks between those computers, and this would later lead to the birth of the Internet. The earliest forms of the internet, such as CompuServe, were develop in the 1960s. Primitive forms of email were also developed during this time. By the 70s networking technology had improved, and 1979s usenet allowed users to communicate through a virtual newsletter. Social networks are massively addictive. Most people I know check and interact on social sites constantly throughout the day. And they have no idea how much actual time they spend on social media. If you're a social media addict, and your addiction is getting worse, there's a reason for that : Most of the major social network companies, as well as social content creators, are working hard every day to make their networks so addictive that you can't resist them. In the world of social networking, Facebook benefits most from network effect. Facebook happened to be the top social network when social networking busted out as a mainstream activity. Now, everybody's on Facebook because everybody's on Facebook. And even people who don't like social network use it anyway, because that's where their family, friends and colleagues are and because of addiction. The image illustrates Facebook as a cocaine and the guy is sniffing Facebook like an addicted or dependent person in Facebook. My opinion any action can be become addictive if it has a negative significant impact on a persons life.
