I’ve done doodles of Melelani in fancy outfits before in my sketchbooks, but I’ve done an embarrassingly little amount of digital art of her so here is what she wore to a fancy Faerie Ball campaign that @flipwizardmcgay DM’d for us

Some Melelani design/backstory notes!!! 

I’m still fleshing her out and tryin to give her some more detailed/complex motivations n stuff like that. I’m having lots of fun with it~ 

It’s nice to not have to do TOO much worldbuilding since DND has its own established ‘universe’ (unlike a lot of my OCs so far lol), and the plot develops itself thanks to our groups’ sessions. In the meantime, though, I still have some freedom to make my own interpretations when coming up with background stuff (especially with homebrew races like the Trichadons hehe).

(Punica and Lezaford here are particularly hilarious because the former was originally human and therefore wasn’t BORN a plant, and the latter is an animated suit of armor that wouldn’t even HAVE a child form)

HERE have a bunch of Mels from when I was working on her design, because I like them and forgot I had them. She turned out looking very Chris Sanders-y (which is no surprise if you know me well enough) and so I like to joke to myself that Gantu is her uncle or something lol

I’ve finally started taking that (VERY VERY GOOD) advice where you draw your character idea a bunch of times and a bunch of different ways before you do any type of Full Color Portraits (a bad habit of mine). That way, nothing is precious right off the bat and you won’t get stuck with character sheets you’ll have to remake once you inevitably come up with some tweaks to improve the design.

I still have to work out the rest of her costumes (I have to doublecheck whether she has 3 or 5 in her inventory LMAO). But for now, I like Mel’s fakey gladiator armor a lot

i doodled these to illustrate how mele’s nose works (since i realized i never gave her one in her finalized design, yet have had her explicitly smell things during sessions). i ended up hiding the layer on the same canvas as this portrait i was working on at the same time, and then forgot about it, so i had another chuckle when i made the layer visible again looking for the right lineart layer

anyway it’s intended to be in the same vein as that spongeboby type of thing where characters that arent usually depicted with nostrils suddenly gain them for comedic effect. im positive other cartoons do/have done this too... but i will use any and every opportunity to make sponebob references, especially with melelani because of course i will
