Fluffy July Day 1 Pairing: Merlin x Romani (FGO)

"Good morning, it's a beautiful day!" Merlin shouted the moment he stepped into the living room. His outburst was completely ignored by the redhead seated near an open window.

"Big day today, wouldn't you say?" Merlin tried once again to get the other man's attention.

"Is it?" Romani asked right back. He turned the page of the book he was reading without looking up from it.

"I'd say so!" Merlin exclaimed as he held both arms up above his head dramatically. He paused. Still no reaction. His hands fell to his sides and he looked noticeably perplexed when he asked, "Did you really forget...?"

Considering how purposely annoying he'd been about the subject lately, Merlin thought that was a near impossibility. Though he did know his lover had the tendency to get lost in his work so even important things could slip his mind. This was his first day off in a while.

The fluffy, white, squirrel-like creature in Romani's lap yawned and stretched before turning its back to Merlin and curling up comfortably once again. He heard a soft "Fouuu..." trail off as it fell right back asleep.

Romani turned towards him, looked above the rim of his glasses, and blinked. After a moment of silence he shut his eyes and shook his head. He squeezed the bridge of his nose between his finger and thumb while he motioned vaguely with his other hand.

"Would you stop making that face already and go get me the tin on the coffee table." Romani sighed.

Merlin turned towards the table in question to see said tin. It was a boring old thing he probably never would've given a second glance. He picked it up and brought it to his lover.

Romani leaned forward to set down his book then accept the tin, which caused the necklace he wore to slip free from his shirt. The flower pendant shined brightly as it caught the sunlight.

All the movement annoyed the beastie on his lap. Fou got up and scurried over to his favorite arm of the couch. He perched there and glared at Merlin. Because of course his nap being disturbed was that guy's fault.

Romani scooted over then pat the free space next to himself. He waited for Merlin to sit before he removed the lid of the tin and said, "I was up pretty late last night making these. Here you go."

Merlin's eyes fell to the flower-shaped cookies. Painstakingly detailed in a way he hadn't realized was possible, they were almost too pretty to consume. They looked exactly like that pendant on the necklace Romani wore - the one Merlin had given him for their first anniversary.

"You've been extra annoying lately of course I didn't forget," Romani snickered. He picked up a cookie then said, "Say 'ah'."

Merlin did as he was told. He bit down on the treat and chewed. So delicious. Seriously the best thing he'd ever eaten. He swore he could taste the love in them. Merlin turned towards his love with his eyes shining.

Before he could even get a word out, Romani kissed the corner of his mouth and said, "Happy anniversary."

Overwhelmed in that oh-so special way that only this man ever made him feel, Merlin wrapped his arms around Romani and buried his face in his neck.

Emotions he was positive someone such as himself was never meant to feel bubbled within him until they reached a boiling point. He was going to explode and it was all this guy's fault. There was only one thing left to say. His voice was muffled when he muttered, "I love you."
