Just learned of Sandy Wernick's passing.
He was a great guy.
I am so grateful for the experience of *almost* turning my book “The Comedians" into a Netflix series with him many years ago.
Sandy worked on everything from The Muppet Show to The Larry Sanders Show, managed everyone from Phyllis Diller to Lorne Michaels.
He teamed me with Merrill Markoe at a time when I was being represented by Joe Ezsterhas' old agent, Bob Bookman.
It was fun being in the Brillstein Entertainment building for several months, scoring an audience with the big guns at HBO, AMC, FX, Warner Brothers, and Netflix (right as their big Hollywood skyscraper opened). It was a unique experience in which I got to work with the legends of Hollywood past as we pitched a series to the world of Hollywood future. It almost happened but then amazon came along and greenlit a pilot called Mrs. Maisel at the exact same time. It upstaged our premise and killed most of our momentum, but no matter. It was so much fun to be with Sandy Wernick. That was the most important thing of all. A legend, a gentleman, and perhaps the very best person in all of Hollywood.
