I think the best way to write your durgetash is with a bit of unreliable narrator. No matter if your story is from Gortash's pov or Durge's pov, they need to be oblivious to how much they are obsessed with the other. They have strong feelings and they are so oblivious to them. They cannot afford to admit it but even if they could they would not because that's just who they are...

I prefer to see allience between Gortash and the Dark Urge not as something recent but as a partnership that started more than ten years ago. And it took long and careful dance of courtship for them to start getting closer.

It took Gortash asking several times for the Dark Urge to stay a bit longer and to share a glass of wine and the Dark Urge very slowly starts setting precedents for more and more proximity as one day they are willing to step out of shadows and stand a bit closer to Gortash and then maybe they are willing to stay a bit longer and exchange few words not relayed to their allience and then maybe they are willing to even sit down and so on...

I'm really fond of the idea of them growing closer just very slowly and teasing and testing each other. And looking back neither of them can really pinpoint one single moment when they started to be important to one another, when they truly started to care.

It was all just series of many insignificant moments piling up that grew into genuine mutual affection.

I find quite intriguing that Tara calls Gale "Mr Dekarios" and also that this is how we learn his surname. Because Gale calls himself Gale of Waterdeep and it's not because he's ashamed of his roots or connection to his mother it is simply because it sounds more grand more respectable more important. It is reflecting his ambitions and how he wants to be perceived. As someone grandious, as someone great.

But Tara is putting emphasis on his surname, on connection to his mother, on the fact that he is human connected to other humans. She does not call him Gale of Waterdeep or not even just Gale because she wants him to remeber that he is also Dekarios and he should not cut himself away from his family and community in his attempts to pursue his ambitions.

The companions looked at the Dark Urge and said: I could fix them.

Gortash looked at the Dark Urge and said: I can make them worse.

I like to headcanon that Gortash almost always calls the Dark Urge some sort of pet names from "dear ally" or "my friend" to more personalised one such as "my dread heart" and "my beautiful nightmare".

The Dark Urge on the other hand keeps calling him simply Gortash no matter the situation and it's the greatest expression of affection when they call him "Enver".

I do not think that the Dark Urge ever called Gortash mocking titles such as "little tyrant" or "lordling", that really seems like something exclusively Orin called him.

But I do think that when the Dark Urge wanted to think of Gortash in more impersonal way they were referring to him simply as "the tyrant" and later slipping and thinking of him as "their tyrant".

I love portraying durgetash as never ending tension of unspoken feelings so close to being something real yet they both do not know how to approach it, how to reach towards the other. Nothing happened because they were both too scared to lose that precious little something they hard, too scared to dare to desire more...

I don't understand people complaining about the lines the Dark Urge says being too edgy. Where is your whimsy? Yes they are corny and over-the-top but that's the charm.

What is there not to love about lines such as: "rancid blood" and "yearning to reap death in this world" and "twiching knife-hand writing tragedy in blood" and "while the world itself is gasping it's last" and "all is ash and meat" and "they're dying for me, all of them" and "pave my path with corpses, build my castle with bones" and "kill, kill and kill again" and "BEHOLD THE DANCE OF DEATH! "
