reason:

Has never shown interest in or craved contact with any women whatsoever. His male colleague/roommate/best friend is his entire life. He would die for that man, he would kill for that man, he would sell his organs to Satan in a shady bar for that man. Dangle that man in front of him like a bunch of keys and he will do whatever you say. Would be perfectly happy living in complete isolation as long as they are together, just the two of them. "We don't need friends, we've got each other".

When they broke up as a duo, it was treated very divorce-like by the narrative and the characters, including another colleague of theirs who is implied to be gay by word of god - said colleague basically acted like an older gay man helping a younger gay man get over his first serious heartbreak and get his mind off his ex-boyfriend through work. When a different man suddenly kisses Buddybob later in the series, our guy has no negative reaction to it. There is an official music video where the two exes are finally reunited in the angstiest way possible, and every moment they share on-screen together is absolutely possible to give a queer reading to.

All in all, nothing has ever been confirmed and all headcanons are valid, but in my heart of hearts, this man is absolutely gay, your honour.

For the people who are now fighting the urge to re-read Homestuck, I present an alternative: Mind My Gap, a web series by a late Dutch filmmaker Rosto, which ran from 1998 to 2014 and is still fully available online. Here's a comprehensive list of what the two series have in common:

Both are about characters leaving the comfortable confines of their simplistic home to explore a new, complex and dangerous environment;

Both are multi-media projects pushing what could be called a "web comic", including elements such as animation, music, voice acting and interactive segments, and also the use of real photographs;

Both involve a lot of time and space shenanigans and require the reader to pay attention to make sense of what is happening when and to which character;

Both also involve some incredibly dark themes, including gore (especially towards eyes), death, grief, murder, and harm done to children;

The author inserts himself into the narrative as a character who is omniscient and omnipresent to a degree, and more than ready to fuck with his own characters;

There are religious themes and references present;

A sense of nostalgia for old media is present alongside the criticism of media industry and consumerism found within;

The comedy is very dark sometimes, other times bordering on a shitpost;

And here's the best part: it's only 26 episodes long, not counting the short films, has a definitive ending (and two later short films focusing on a single character and serving an a cryptic epilogue of sorts), and will also absolutely be up the alley of someone who loved Homestuck back in the day (saying this as that exact person) but doesn't want to deal with re-reading something that long or has too much fandom baggage to return to it. Oh, and one last thing: the queer subtext between the two main characters. No word on if it was intended by the creator, but if you love doomed old man yaoi with toxic codependency and longing turned obsession... Also there's monsterfucking very early in the story, but that's besides the point. Everyone who's opting out of re-reading Homestuck, please read Mind My Gap, or read both simultaneously, I don't know. It was supposed to have a feature film adaptation that didn't come through due to the artist's untimely passing, but at least we have the series itself.

Diddybob from Mind My Gap. TV anchorman turned vagabond, did some terrible things but was ultimately a victim of the Devil stirring him along (literally). Design fluctuates but always looks off/uncanny, which is on purpose. Was apparently considered attractive enough in-universe to score himself a mermaid wife at one point, but it was short-lived. Terrible things he's done include stealing a car, abandoning his best friend and fish infanticide. Was actually pretty popular and well-liked in his TV days, apparently.

Reminder, the premise is “would a normie think it’s weird to find them attractive?” (Would they have to “hear me out?”) NOT “smash-or-pass”

Propaganda:

Explicitly attracted to women, breached confinement because he saw some mecha harpy ladies outside and wanted to get some game, like a damn house cat would (this is why you should spay and neuter!). Then, once he actually gets a chance with a woman, he hesitates because the memories of his male best friend whom he'd abandoned come flooding, and he feels he is not ready for another serious relationship yet (he literally uses the words "long-term commitment" when describing their friendship).

He then keeps thinking back to his male friend continuously, in ways that become more and more longing... Oh, and he writes him incredibly heartfelt letters. The narrative refers to them as soulmates, and the queer subtext between the two men is palatable, even if not necessarily intended by the creator (who did compare the two to other often-shipped male characters in media, like Bert and Ernie). Overall, I think it's safe to say that, while not confirmed by canon outright and likely not intentionally implied, something bisexual might be going on with this man.

Propaganda:

Extremely introverted, to the point where living in complete isolation for years was fine by him, as long as his one special person was there with him. Feels no need nor desire for socialization, even if he finds it nice when he does end up in a good company. Would rather stay inside his familiar environment at all times, only willing to go outside if his best friend's life depends on it.

A fast reader, has very good memory, was able to recognize a car he had never seen before just by reading about it in a letter once. Has great sense of direction despite never having been outside his home before, seems to be highly intelligent while struggling significantly in other areas, such as social skills or assertiveness, and being averse to difficult tasks according to one of his character profiles (his intelligence is likely memory-based and not oriented towards practical problem solving).

Very naive and timid, immediately trusts every stranger in his vicinity, easily misunderstands people when they don't explain in detail what they want from him (mistook a stranger clearly soliciting him for a fan asking for an autograph), never assumes anyone to have bad intentions even when he should, unless they make said intentions absolutely clear.

His only interests in life seem to be his best friend and their job in furniture review - he slips into info-dumping about furniture a lot, even when it's probably not very appropriate, and genuinely adores everything that's related to it.

Is very concerned with hygiene, will worry about not having showered in a while or the place he's at lacking a decent bathroom even when he should be concerned with many other things.

Struggles with empathizing with other people's struggles when he himself doesn't share them. Even when he genuinely wants to help, he just doesn't know how to relate, which impacts his relationships negatively.

Seems to have ridiculously high pain tolerance, or just able to ignore his pain and injuries and show no reaction to them for prolonged periods of time (in some cases, the pain could have been numbed by alcohol, but not in all of them).

Dislikes change, becomes stressed out if his routine is disrupted or if someone he's used to having around is no longer in his life. Permanent negative changes can make him go into denial.

Doesn't seem to grasp the concept of personal space, doesn't notice when his personal space is invaded or when he invades someone else's.

Publicly humiliated himself by singing badly on live TV and didn't care, might not even understand that it was humiliating in the first place.

The web series is very obscure and there aren't many pictures from it online, but it can all be accessed on the official website (mindmygap.com), and all the short films (including the one I've screenshotted for the pic) are on YouTube. The series is also very dark and deals with potentially disturbing themes, so viewing discretion is advised.
