I wonder where the idea that we need to terraform planets to colonize them came from. it’s not true and a lot of the time leads into some pretty damn misanthropic nihilistic shit. yeah, it would be nice, but it’s not needed and it’s much, much easier and simpler to genetically modify the colonists around the planet rather than the other way around. same with the idea that if FTL travel is impossible then humanity will never leave the solar system, it’s wrong, cynical, and to me indicates that that you think we’ve already reached the peak of science and that it’s all refinement from here rather than the significantly nicer truth that the only limit are those of physics and if it’s physically possible, then it can be done.
also immortality is actually like super easy, aging is caused by cell damage, once we get nanobots that can fix DNA we’ve solved aging and that kinda tech isn’t far away (we already have nanobots) and as for mind-uploading we currently have computers with the right amount of memory space, the problem is figuring out how to make a brain-machine interface to get your brain on there (as well as, of course, the fact that you aren’t cut-and-pasting, you’re copy-and-pasting, you aren’t suddenly a computer, there are now two you’s).
