If he wasn’t so skilled at Occlumency, Severus would have been overwhelmed by guilt. Playing his part had always been difficult, but never as hard as running Hogwarts and torturing students. Of course, he knew the students and those innocent around him had it worse, he wouldn’t dare minimize their pain, but he was miserable himself.
His hopes that Potter would stay hidden were squandered when the arrogant brat stepped out of formation. Fury welled up inside of him as he calculated what he could do that wouldn’t get the man killed. However, he needn’t even consider that, as another familiar face promptly stepped between them, and his heart only sank further. Minerva. He’d avoided her as much as possible following Albus’ death, not wanting to put her in danger or hurt her any further. And yet, here he was, staring at the woman he loved and her wand aimed directly at him.
“You’re glowing!” -Min hehehe
River narrowed her eyes at her wife for a moment in thought. She shrugged, “I did get new makeup but I didn’t think it’d make that much of a difference.”

Winter was certainly upon them; the almost foot of snow he landed in confirmed that. There was a small shiver as he cursed at himself for not wearing a heavier coat. A few months in the South of France with sea and warm air had made him temporarily forget about the cold. One hand tightening on the bag of presents he held, he walked up the small stone path to knock on the front door. There was nowhere like home for the holidays and River’s family was the closest he got to home. A quiet mutter as he waited, “I’m going to need one large cup of tea.”
@minervashogwarts Running for their lives hadn’t been what Ruby had planned for the night. A quiet night with cocoa by the fire to combat the increasing snow outside, yes. But the rest of the night had turned into a blur of adrenaline and fear. She didn’t give a damn what happened to her home as long as she got Minerva and Donna somewhere safe. And honestly how they managed to get out and to Hogsmeade, she didn’t know. But Hogwarts castle wasn’t a good idea so she pulled the other witches along to the only person she could think of that would help them. Or help Minerva at the very least. The Hog’s Head would be decent enough shelter until they could figure out their next step. Aberforth didn’t seem too happy to see the Sheridan women but she filed that away for later consideration. They were granted a night’s stay but she didn’t think any of them would be getting much sleep. Better to use their time to plan then. “Any ideas where we go from here?”

“Alright then. Tha’s one way to do a greetin’ “ he chuckled, staring at his fist for a moment before grinning and setting the kettle on to boil. “I got what you need, Min, but I can’t promise it’ll do any good. It hasn’t worked for us. Not a whole lot can be done to stop walkers from crossing wards, m’afraid.”
She cursed under her breath as she looked at Tara, “I was hoping to bring over a few monster plants to have outside the wall. They attack on movement, mostly nonvenomous, but they would be a good way to slow down anyone trying to near the walls without ya knowing. What about the hippogriffs?”
Aberforth shook his head, “They wouldn’t take kindly to mugglefolk. No offense, Tara, but the beasts are more of a danger than of use.”
“Oh, erm, I haven’t exactly told her what all we’ve discussed.”

Tara was relieved when the man seemed to be alright with her strange gesture. She cleared her throat and clasped her hands in front of her, listening intently. She looked between the two of them- first to Minerva and then to Aberforth. Her brows rise in question.
“Monster plants?” She felt totally out of her league here, but she was just grateful that the other two seemed to have a sense of what was going on. “That sounds resourceful...” But, it sounded like the plan wasn’t exactly where the two magical beings wanted it to be.
“No offense taken.” Tara said sincerely. “Sounds like the uh-- hippo-gruffs are more problematic than it’s worth.” She looked to Minerva for some sort of explanation.
