Ben Nichols Shows me How to Use My Cellphone Camera
My 4 year old son was shocked to learn that I have friends. That's because I meet them online and travel to meet them so he never sees them. Any way, my "Dysfunctional Drinking Lucero Twitter" family met in Memphis for the Lucero Family Christmas at Mingelwood Hall a few weeks ago. We had tweeted in November that we should all meet in person--take that step from virtual friends to real friends --and hope that there were no nutcases among us. So, Stephanie, Chris, John and Lucero Anonymous (can't recall his real name so his twitter handle is apt) and I met at Aflred's on Beale for pre-show drinks.I was the oldest one so I was immediately dubbed "Uncle Bobby." Stephanie tweeted that, "we are all wild as hell and totally obsessed with Lucero. Uncle Bobby is the most sane." We caught some cabs and headed to Midtown. We were drinking Jameson before Lucero hit the stage and I found Ben near the back bar. He said, "Nice to see you again," and I told him there was someone who had to meet him--right now. I ran to the front of the stage and got Stephanie and told her to come with me--I promised her she'd be happy if she did. So we went and I introduced her to Ben. Well, we had to get a pic to capture the moment. Stephanie and Ben huddled up and I whipped out my trusty prepaid phone and took a pic. No flash-- so the pic sucked. At that time, Ben comes over to me, holds out his hand and says, "Here. let me see that. I will turn on the flash." He got the phone, turned the flash on and said, "Okay, let's do this again." The next pic turned out great and Stephanie was still in that "I met my hero" shocked state as a few tears streamed down her face. (I can relate--first time I met Bruce Springsteen my knees were literally shaking.) To top off the night, I finally met Facebook Diehards Carrie Reddit and and got to see Mary Ellen again. This was the night that I met LB. It was her birthday, she said. Met some good friends that night.
On the way back from the show, we asked our car driver to hit a McDonald’s Drive-thru. We asked if he liked Lucero. Never heard of them he said, but the Smashing Pumpkins are his fav, but could not name a single song.
The Twitter family is planning to head to Birmingham for another Lucero show in early February . The before Ben fixed my flash and after pics are attached
