I have a new child-floof. @titosvodka sponsored all doggo adoptions this week. That wasn’t why we went, but I am grateful for them and it was a nice surprise. J has always wanted a husky. And I do miss my JesseDoog. But we have a lot of animals already. I know. And I was being good at saying “not now.” Then I read the behaviour notes for this angel. “Amelia” had a rough start. Picked up as a stray, 2yo, she did not trust people. She was rightfully marked a level 4 handling. I knew then she needed someone like me with the experience and patience to work with her.. who needed to rip up the remaining carpet anyway. My mental health has sucked lately. There’s no denying it. J has been worried about me, and rightfully so. I’m the type who flounders if I don’t have a “job” or “purpose.” I need “reasons” to do chores, get out of bed, etc. That’s how I’ve hacked my brain. After 5 years living together, he knows how I operate. Finances have been tight. It’s my main stressor. J is getting a raise, so we won’t have to worry about it much longer. I can focus on my art.. but there’s no structure there. So, now I have a job. A job who was so terrified of people, but just last night curled up in my arms and slept peacefully. A lot of that trust is thanks to her handler, Connor. She became a completely different dog when we sprung her from the shelter. And while I work with her on her anxiety, I’m tackling my own. For her. And the white patch on the back of her neck that matches JesseDoog’s. She’s a miniature husky at 35lbs. She’s literally half the size Jessers was. She’s smart. And between her, Violet, and Freya, she’ll be the smallest in stature. But she may end up with the largest personality of them all.. which is hard to beat if you’ve met Violet.
