a misunderstanding;
@minoxmi
Eyes glanced over the book she held between her hands, scanning for the person she was supposed to be meeting. A client, specifically. They were meeting so she could finally get paid for the job they hired her for. A hand reached over into the bag of chips (hot cheetos), naturally glancing back at the paper to make it seem she was just another member of society enjoying the afternoon in a local park.
With a small sigh, she checked her watch for the time. Already half an hour late. They’re not showing up.
She rolled her eyes and shut the book firmly, chewing on her bottom lip as she scanned the park once more to find any sign of her client. None.
“Hmph.” Uncrossing her legs, Wheein crumpled up the bag of chips and tossed it into the garbage can, beginning to gather her things. What a waste of time, making her wait so long when they weren’t going to show up. No call, no text, no money, and a whole lot of time wasted. The guy had seemed sketchy at first, although she was supposed to get a large amount of cash for this job. It’s the whole reason she took it.
Now she didn’t have it.
Wheein began making her way through the park, the loud screams of joy and laughter that bubbled up the young children starting to annoy her more than ever. She enjoyed kids, actually liked them better than most of the adults she knew. Although now, things had to get messy and she really hated that. She turned her head to the sounds of a particular little girl who happened to be screaming her head off, running away from a man.
She wouldn’t have thought twice about it, just walked by as if it was a father or brother having a nice time with his daughter or sister. But when she passed by them, her eyes squinted and determined that the situation seemed weirder than usual. There was an instinct within her that screamed this seemed off, the way the little girl seemed to want to run away from the man chasing her.
And in the next moment, she appeared before the little girl, holding out her arm to protect her as she faced the stranger chasing her. “Excuse me, what the hell are you doing chasing this little girl?” She asked, frowning deeply and her tone harsh and bitter.
