“Why do things like this happen when happiness is just within my gasp?”

Time stood still as you stared into the broken shards of glass and spilt liquid on the floor. Your eyes were wide and lost at the situation that had occurred. Everything around you grew into background noise as you tried to steady your rapidly beating heart. “What…Just happened?” You thought.
“I only wished to make you happy.. I only wished to be happy with you..”
His verbal tangent surfaced to your ears, catching your attention. Your eyes slowly drifted from the mess at your feet to the distressed boy in front of you. At that point, your heart wrenched in pain. His eyes were wet and filled with tears, whilst his hands were firmly clenched beside him.
“Oh Ray..” You breathed. Immediately, you knew what to do. Your body reacted before your mind could process everything. Swiftly, you wrapped your arms around his back, pulling him in towards you. “It’s okay.. I’m here. I’m not going anywhere.”
Before long, you felt his arms wrap around you as well, his forehead gently resting in the crevice of your neck. His grip was firm, as if he were afraid you would disappear into thin air any second.
“Please… don’t ever leave me alone. I… need you.”

Inspired by seeing many people’s artworks and drawings of this particular scene. I’m not the greatest writer either and I’m pretty sure I went back and forth in past and present tense but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I’m trying to get back into writing and I couldn’t get this scene out of my head.
