all i listened to working on this thing was [x]
a drabble. venting as usual, but hopefully an enjoyable read anyway.
You hear a far off cry. Someone is wounded. You in no way affect the outcome of this. You had nothing to do with it, you’re too far away to reach them in time, you hardly even know what’s happening. But you run toward the sound. Conflict settles in your heart. A near panic laps like dark waves around you. You were witness to the death of something, if only indirectly, and you know it before you come near enough to see the damages or the body or bodies. You sink into a deep depression. You never return. Your legs carry you thoughtlessly to the woods. Deeper. If you can immerse yourself in this, if you can get lost, you can remove the pain. Forget you saw or heard anything. None of it matters now, right? You cannot affect this outcome. What’s done is done. So why does it hurt you? Why is it carving a hole in the bottom of your heart? What do you do now? What do you do? What do you do.
