Adhd cultures is doing an art project about procrastination and lack of focus due to adhd and procrastination and struggling to focus on it because you have ADHD
This is ridiculous )':

adhd culture is that i was gonna submit to this blog but then got distracted by a tiktok notification and then 20 minutes later i open tumblr again to see this ask box open with the words “adhd culture is”

ADHD culture is crying because your executive dysfunction makes you feel useless
ADHD culture is having a million missing assignments because you can only focus on your hyperfixation
ADHD culture is staying up way too late by accident because you have no perception of time
ADHD culture is stressing out super bad about the work you have and then you get too overstimulated by stress to actually do the work
ADHD culture is everything looking like a mess to other people when its perfectly clean to you
Bonus: auDHD culture is wanting an organized schedule but you're too spontaneous and can't stick to the schedule so you kinda just shut down

Autistic ADHD culture is hyper-fixating on rocks and minerals for hours and at 3am you rise up from your resting place and start moving around the house because you can’t sleep at all, despite knowing that you’re going to probably regret it hours later… And then you decide to reorganize your room because why not.

ADHD culture is relying on the fear of missing a deadline and getting punished for it as a motivation to get stuff done for years; only to discover that speedcore music gives you that same feeling, which makes you relieved to learn that it wasn’t fear that you were relying on for motivation— it was simply adrenaline. It was simply the feeling of being in a rush.

adhd (+ autism) culture is having a breakdown because your teachers insist you would be so good if you just put the effort into your work because they 'know' you're smart, you're just holding yourself back
like i fucking need someone to hold my hand through it or else i cant do it because it feels like torture. i need positive reinforcement and constant instructions or else i get stuck and shut down.
i don’t really think all teachers (and even professors) understand how painful it can feel to be told that you’re holding yourself back.
i never had this quite exact issue, but especially in uni i have encountered professors that respond to me reaching out for help (“i don’t know how to ensure i get a good grade on this upcoming test, can we talk about how i can apply the study guide better this time?”) with just affirmative platitudes (“you’re your own worst critic, just study and you’ll be fine!”) and it can be super soul-crushing honestly, especially when you spent the day building up the courage to approach them.
i super feel you anon, and i imply educators everywhere to beware of how non-constructive compliments (“i know you’re smart”) can really fuck with a student’s ability to approach you in the future. it can sound like you’re telling them to just figure it out on their own.
adhd culture is not knowing how to grieve bc your brain just tucks away anything not in front of you, and feeling awful about it because you do love them, of course you do, so why can't you cry?
