“No. It’s not entirely proportionate, but little of Hallownest’s art is. The statue is that size for visibility’s sake and to account for the fountain.”

He blinked. “As king, I would be best suited of anyone in the kingdom to compensate them for their labor. While some would be willing to provide their services for free, what with who I am, there is no point in me accepting it for free.”
He waved the thought off. “And, as it stands, psychotherapists and I tended towards a contentious relationship, seeing as it is I who gifted the bugs of Hallownest their free minds in the first place. I gave them their realm of study, but I also put each patient into their practice.”
You know what, Pale King? You're not actually that dumb. Sure you made many mistakes, but so would most anyone else in your situation.

“Which ones?” He’s almost reduced to dust again, and still, questions about the vessels. “All have been sealed in their graves now, be it the Abyss-” Plating clicked back into place with a painful pop. “Or the Black Egg Temple.”
YOU! *Angrily jabs at the pale king, stopping a little short of actually touching him* Yes, you made mistakes, no, your not perfect, HOWEVER, you are a good king! You did your best for your people, You made hard choices, FOR THEM. You did your best with all the resources you had. Feeling guilty about them isn't going to fix your mistakes. What you should do is leave this place at first chance, and try to make amends. THAT would have results. Otherwise you are just making them worse by running.
It would be... nice, he supposed. To leave. To return to Hallownest and have anyone left welcome him with open arms and a willingness to let him rebuild. And to throw himself into that effort, the way he had thrown himself into building the kingdom in the first place.
It would be nice. But mortals and other Higher Beings were fickle things.

The Pale King flew into the air before crashing back down to the ground, his “corporeal” form threatening to burst into dust. Unfortunately for him, the Dream Realm retained the sensation of pain perfectly.
He hissed standing up, shaking off what dust had been loosened. “I did not do so much as speak poorly of you. Additionally, I am the highest office in the land.” Well, he and the White Lady, but he handled laws more often.
