Inside the man. Outside the tin hat

I haven't gotten to see Inside Man yet, and I honestly don't know when I will. But I couldn't help but look a little inside. Written by Moffat, staged by Arwel Jones, with many well-known faces ... and yes I know that in the BBC there are only 4 people in disguise, but again, never lower our gard ;-p

As I said I haven't seen it, I just searched around and the first article I opened contained this:

Jefferson Grief(f) (vs Jefferson Hope), a softly spoken, highly intelligent prisoner. People come to him for insight into their stalled cases and he enjoys toying with them until he deigns to provide his unsettled visitors with solutions to their problems. The latter are deduced... ..story at first runs alongside an apparently unrelated narrative unfolding in an English village. ... Harry (yes) is given a flash drive... that turns out to contain ... bad things.

Let's add that ours Sister Agata ends up chained in a basement (a basement, are we serious?) for something that she would like to tell.That Harry tries to save the young Ben played by the young Moffat (who we remember having been a young Sherlock) and in any case things are already getting a little strange . Maybe it's been a while since I wore a tin hat and I missing it, but it's still a bit curious. The Guardian (where I got the article from) also puts us on alert as it says:

But we all understand how fiction works, so a little more effort to suspend disbelief is applied and on we go.

The Doyle’s Bank

Another character that I struggle to frame is Sebastian Wilkes

Definitely put there to consolidate the backstory that Sherlock was considered a freack from the beginning. But metaphorically all this is unsatisfactory. But Sebastian has some features of interest. He works in the same bank where we see the portrait of a man who is similar to Doyle. In a room kept like a sanctuary. We canonically know that some of Watson's writings are kept in a box preserved in a bank. So the bank is something that preserves the Canon. The founder is gone, but his memory is untouchable. Until of course it is. We see the painting scarred by a yellow sign. (x)

  And in our reality a similar situation exists. The Doyle Estate retains much of the work of their illustrious ancestor, and still benefits from part of the copyrights, under which it also arrogates the right to lay down the laws on how the character created by the Doyle is used and above all interpreted. In recent times when copyrights are increasingly slipping through their fingers, they exercise this power also in a genuinely ridiculous way as the case of the veto to Enola Holmes attests. They have forbidden this with the excuse that a more humane and less machine Holmes is something which only transpires from the last stories of the Canon, casually the only ones on whitc they can still claiming of having rights.

 Apart from the fact that there is a sincere doubt that they have ever read the Canon, why, seriously? Holmes' theme of humanization is definitely a goal for the BBC Sherlock. It comes even before Holmes' possible representation as homosexual. It is at a more superficial and decidedly less contestable level of reading. The only bank's character we know is Sebastian. Except for the dead man and his lover, who will come to appreciate the value of his partner's love only after his death. Sebastian shows that he has contempt for Sherlock, which obviously hurts the detective.

 His sadness for never having been appreciated, for being considerated only for his "annoying" deductive talents and not for what could have been beyond deductions, is blatant.

But for Sebastian, Sherlock is just that. Someone who makes a fun (sometimes not too much) trick. But despite not knowing how to see anything else, he still needs him. He uses Sherlock for his own purpose. Sherlock is even reluctant to take his money, as if he doesn't want to be bought. 

It will be John who accepts the check, but after all it is a mirror for Doyle, the first to profit from the character of Sherlock Holmes. And is in this circustance that he takes care to make it clear that their relationship is purely working.

The case in particular has a solution that seems to have little or nothing to do with the bank, except for the fact that the two protagonists worked there. On the other hand, it is highlighted that the structure is vulnerable, and someon whit a certain skill  can easily breack in to and create confusion. It seems so likely that Sebastian Wilkes could represent Doyle Estate. And it is also possible that he was named after the man who hunted Holmes for a very long time (longer than Moriarty) not casually. Sebastian is the christian name and Wilkes the surname. Wilkes meaning is William's son and  Sir William Shad is the name of the bank founder. The Estate's website (x) is also interesting, except that it was probably created, or at least renewed, only in recent times.

However, to see that a building very similar to that used in TBB was used for the shooting and this kind of photo is the result, however, remains a curious fact.

I do not know if the Gattis' relationship with the estate was ever made explicit. Surely their Sherlock is widely used on their website, it is perhaps the Sherlock Holmes that they used the most. 

But it could also be an attempt to mark the territory, something like "you exist because I allow you and you belong to me". But if we have understood something from Dracula (x) the Moffits do not have a great opinion of the Estate and are looking forward to being able to get out of it. (x x)

ANDERSON’S BEARD

Impossible not to be tormented by Anderson's beard. When a character changes so substantially it is difficult not to ask why. In retrospect, having an incredible confidence in the planning of the Moffitsverse, it seems that the beard is a prefiguration of the Captain Sokolov in Dracula. But it's probably just that they represent the same thing.

Anderson's character is certainly not pleasant, but he is not a villain. It is an obvious mirror of John. He works with corpses (Molyy's mirror / John's mirror), he is married but unhappy, he is less intelligent than Sherlock .... well of all the street (I don't mean that John is stupid, he is just less intelligent than Sherlock, who isin't? and in any case he's otherwise intelligent. This is also why they form a perfect couple). He lives in an apartment that according to Arwel (X) is a bad copy of 221B, just like John's apartment (and why would anyone ever live in a bad copy of 221B if it wasn't all Mind Theater ?!). He wears large oatmeal colored jumpers.

So, John's mirror. But he also has other features of interest. He was the cause of Sherlock's death (one of the apparent causes), he hated him as much as he loved and then he was the only one to believe that he was not dead and that he would return. In Dracula (I assume they are the same narrative) he is literally the captain of a ship, which governs and leads, but who is unable to bring safely to ground. So I'd say a Doyle mirror, of which John is a primary mirror anyway, and we don't say it, Doyle himself says.

But the beard? The beard appears when Sherlock is not there and John decides to get married. So beard as a cover, as a heterosexual facade. John has shaved for Sherlock Holmes now we have to wait for Anderson to do it too. And Doyle was who in first decided that a beard was necessary.

PAPRIKA

The first time we see Victor he is persecuting Sokolov in a dream. A captain who wakes up alone in a bed at the beginning of an episode ....

Sokolov blames himself for making Victor lose his hand. The hand as part of himself, as an important piece. Jesus says to cut the part that sins (eye, hand, foot), the Church in Dracula is heavily accused of having given a certain turn to history.

If in Sherlock Anderson as John's mirror is suggested, it is fully confirmed here. How I have come so far without seeing the ending Son that bond the two is a mystery.  And Yuri means Light of God ... light conductor, again. There would seem to be an explanation for the growing beard. Obtuse Anderson of the first series, the cause of Sherlock's ruin, becomes more supportive as the story goes. In Dracula, while sinking (with Agatha / Sherlock) with the ship, he will be the one that bring the ship closest to the finish line. Victor is a mirror for Sherlock. Tall and bored.

We see him interact mainly with Piotr / Marius who in turn is a mirror of John. Smaller, with a meaningless life before boarding.

Sherlock : and I say “dangerous” and here you are

Piotrus tells his story, and Victor tells him that it seems like just one ... story. It is interesting to note that in the Italian version it is translated as "lie".

 A story to which, like everything they share, Paprika seems to be missing. 

They soon fall back into a comfortable routine of chatting, laughter and a pipe (hem) in front of the fire (kitchen). But still what seems to be missing is paprika, that spicy and tasty quid.

The relationship between the two immediately arouses suspicion of Valentin ... who definitely has a particular aspect.

He warns Victor, about Piotrus, about women and ... about practically everything. Definitely difficult not to see the similarity with Mycroft, except that Valentin is called here, as Valentine's Day, patron saint of lovers. Probably a prefiguration of the need for heart and mind to work together.

In the end only Piotrus, Victor and Sokolov, Aghata will remain on the ship (Sokolov does not seem to care much about Agatha's alleged chastity, a factor of interest). All four imprisoned in a circle (a nightmare of mirrors if I can say) outside which there is the threat of Dracula.

 Piotrus is urged to exit the circle, although this could be dangerous. Going to meet Dracula (sexual desire) would be dangerous, we are still in 1897. In fact after a quick attempt Piotrus shows that he has not been "contaminated" and returns to protected territory.

Victor and Piotrus will leave the ship, and will go ashore to tell their story.

 The Canon and its heteronormative reading. Two  men splendid together, but still only friends. A story that lacks paprika. Sokolov and Agatha will remain on board until the end, but still the ship will not have touched the ground with its precious load of Dracula / paprika. Visually it is interesting to note how the Victror / Piotrus duo remember the two sailors of the boat that arrives in Sherrinford. An experienced sailor and a novice. And Sherlock who will hijack, like a pirate, the boat's course, bringing it into waters where the two would never have sailed.

Somehow they also remind me of Tin Tin and Haddock (x x), feeling not new. To conclude I have just seen this interesting  @possiblyimbiassed​  meta and I see that Marius is connected with Mary (brilliant). Still confirmation that the version of Holmes and Watson who left the ship in 1897 is a heteronormative version.
