ok so in april 2013 i opened a tumblr blog with my friends under the url ask-the-skittles which was an ask blog for the 4 of our mlp ocs (note: we were all 11) and that went for a few months until i figured i was actually the only person using the blog, changed the url to propertyofspec and took it for Myself. i used isketch a lot back then and i went under the alias ‘spectrum’ after my mlp oc, which got shortened to spec by the chat bc it was very fast paced. there u go theres my Dark Secrets. heres a drawing of spectrum for u

how does legal status of trolls work- like, adult-ship-wise? guardian-ness? like. okay. humans are legal adults at 18, what about trolls. and they need guardians until 18- but clearly trolls come over before then, and don't rlly have guardians in the traditional sense. heck, are there any lusii on earth? and what about associated privileges- driving, drinking, even buying matches or fire-lighting tools, sexual products..

if a troll immigrant is UNDER 18, they need to find themselves a sponsor (tldr; an adult citizen willing to provide guidance and financial support) to be allowed into the us, whether they’re coming in as a refugee or not. if a troll immigrant is OVER 18 and granted refugee status, they don’t need a sponsor. karkat turned 18 right before he embarked for earth and was granted refugee status so he didn’t need a sponsor. still, dave (as an 18 year old with access to bro’s significant income) was prepared and totally eligible to be karkat’s sponsor if he’d been denied refugee status

karkat’s immigration process was particularly tricky. he didn’t exist in the eyes of the empire; there were no official records of him anywhere. the only reason he made it out of the brooding caverns and had access to basic troll resources (a lusus, carpenter droids, a monthly stipend, schoolfeeding modules) was because the sufferer’s followers pulled some strings a while back. even then, his access to those resources was equivalent to that of a rustblood’s (read: very, very limited)

since he had no documentation, karkat had sollux forge some for him. he used those documents (which declared him a rustblood) to get off-planet. as soon as he escaped alternian space, he applied, as a mutant, for refugee status on earth; he didn’t use the forged papers because he was out of the empire’s reach, and document fraud would’ve sabotaged the application process. upon entering earth space, he went to a spaceport and underwent the arduous interplanetary refugee admissions process: security screenings, interviews, medical examinations, etc… eventually, he was granted refugee status and some new, accurate identity documents

adult troll immigrants can drink, drive, buy matches/fire-lighting tools… pretty much anything adult humans can do as long as they’re documented, except for purchasing weapons (everything from knives to guns). those are strictly off limits
