MoneyWiz for Mac

I had already released a small preview about MoneyWiz for Mac but now the software it's out and.. it's great.

If you have it on your iPad you'll find everything you love.. and more! The software is great, very Apple-like and runs great on Lion: it's lightning fast to enter your transactions and it sync without a hiccup with your devices.

I already talked here about the iPad version..and the Mac one is only better!

This is a great article by SilverWiz, the creators of MoneyWiz about how cloud sync works in general and why they have decided to create their own system, instead of using iCloud or Dropbox.

Lots of people ask us if we’ll do iCloud or Dropbox sync for MoneyWiz…so let me briefly introduce you to how these services work and why we won’t integrate with them

Here, there is a good and easy explanation about how both iCloud and Dropbox work and why SilverWiz decided to use neither.

Some people would propose to workaround the above problems by syncing manually as opposed to automatically…in other words – to ask you, the user, to tap some buttons when you want to sync… That would obviously prevent these issues, but the last time I checked we were living in year 2012

Enough said.

When we started developing MoneyWiz two years ago, one of the major things we wanted to do was proper syncing. We imagined the perfect sync to take a minute to set up and no time at all to manage. It had to do everything automatically!

What where the difficulties found in creating this system and how it works. Clever stuff.

We have such a great service there: why use it for MoneyWiz only? We could develop other great software, that syncs automatically

I really like this last sentence, it shows a company that has a vision for the future. I am very curious.

All in all, I think this post is very interesting for people that don't know at all how cloud sync works, because it explains it all, for tech guys that want more informations and for developers that could relate with this company's experience!

You all know how much I like MoneyWiz for iPad and I'm happy that the SilverWiz guys finally revealed something about MoneyWiz for Mac.

MoneyWiz for Mac features the magnificent and simplistic design of MoneyWiz for iPad, adjusted to work beautifully on the Mac! One of the great things about the entire MoneyWiz family of apps is that once you learn to use one of them, you know how to use the others as well. They are all consistent, and we wanted to keep that with MoneyWiz for Mac as well. We kept the same principles and design concepts from iOS, and made them feel native on the Mac.

I've been using it for close to one month and.. it's great. It has everything I love on the iPad.. and then some more. It's still in beta but it already feels very polished and it's completely true: if you know how to use one version, you'll have no problems using the others too.

MoneyWiz by SilverWiz: a great personal finance app

I'm not a personal finance junkie, not at all. But in this period I felt the need of tracking incomes and expenses to better understand where my (little) money's at. After looking a bit I settled down with MoneyWiz by SilverWiz (and I even ended up translating it in Italian!).

MoneyWiz has many features: I don't use many of them as my needs are pretty basic. For me no budgets, no scheduled and I just look at reports from time to time. What I really use are accounts, as I have many: two credit cards, money in cash, money in the bank, one account for each of my brothers (as I manage them) and, last but not least, an account for all the little expenses I make with my parents money (not counting things like eating at home and such).

This is a basic use and I needed something easy to use: this is why I chose MoneyWiz. It's interface is beautiful (especially with the 1.3 update) and it feels uncluttered and simple to use. I can add expenses and incomes in a breeze and I can easily transfer amounts of money between accounts.

One thing that I love is Sync Everything!, a proprietary cloud sync system that works perfectly!

But what's most important is that a Mac version is coming (Spring) and.. it's going to be great! It's still in early beta but all it needs is some polish, as all the functionalities (and more) are already there!
