Have you ever visited Inclined Plane 2 East of the Morris Canal in Ledgewood, #NewJersey? The #MorrisCanal, constructed between 1825 and 1831, traveled 102 miles from Phillipsburg to Jersey City and had an elevation change of 1,674 feet over the course of the canal. Ascending and descending the elevation changes was accomplished with use of inclined planes. Inclined Plane 2 East had a vertical rise of 80 feet. The Morris Canal was abandoned in 1924 and listed on the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places in 1973 and 1974, respectively. Inclined Plane 2 East is located within a public park in Ledgewood and the remains of the turbine pit of the powerhouse foundation has been stabilized and preserved.
