Burn Without You Chapter 8
OK, so top right corner, going from left to right, High Councilor Langashi, High Councilor Jenobi, then our rakshasa groom and his two wives that he was marrying at this Cisora. Directly under Langashi, is Audrey’s paternal grandmother and the beauty in the middle? That is Rasime. and below her in the left corner, her mother. and under her is our girl Audrey and her sister Renada and then Maisarra is over on the right. and then this cool set of money is Yekmeni’s money, there is a gold set, a silver set a copper set and a steel set. and the bottom is the steel set and the jewelry is what Lukher has already given her. isn’t it beautiful? I love Indian style anything and everything and at first I was trying to give Yekmeni some Babylonian vibes but that is evolving as you can see.
Now, lets raise the stakes and give our heroine more motivations and complications shall we? Enjoy.
Burn Without You
Chapter 8
Daon felt like he was going to go mad only waiting for the couple of days before the Cisora that Saturday. He had tried busying himself with resharpening all of his weapons, recleaning his armor, and unpacking all of his outfits and tried to make sure he was going to wear the second best one to this Cisora, saving his finest for his cousin’s Savia’s Cisora.
Knowing that Maisarra was wounded emotionally but not being able to try to give her any comfort was the hardest for him. He just felt frustrated and agitated in general and he wished he knew more of the common tongue or marinai or any other language that she was fluent in so that he could converse with her better to really understand her and so that she could understand him.
When the day for the Cisora came they got there when the invitation said to arrive and were shown their private booth to rest in for the festivities and while others were polite to them, none of them were initially very friendly and gave them a rather wide berth, it wasn’t until you and your family came and had the booth right next to the envoy, dressed in the Rakshasa style, befitting the style of others who were in the quarter that Daon’s heart leapt at seeing Maisarra again, but where once there was light and mirth in her eyes, it was gone. Replaced with subdued melancholy as the skin around her eyes looked perhaps a little puffier than usual and the whites of her eyes- a light pink as it was clear to Daon that she had been crying and what hurt him the most was she wouldn’t even look at him. She simply sat in her seat nearby and looked out at the others who had started to congregate in the quarter’s main square.
What surprised Daon and the others from the envoy was how popular you seemed to be to the brides who were distinctly dressed in gorgeously bright red and gold garments as they were eagerly talking with you because apparently word about what Yekmeni was sitting on- was going through the country like wildfire, their source- being none other than their own High Councilors encouraging them to make you their new best friend for future aliances as the young Rakshasa women also eagerly chatted with Serhan and Merrattah as well to confirm what you had told them before you brought them over to the Envoy and formally introduced them to the Envoy as they were very especially kind and gracious and charming as new friendships suddenly seemed to bloom and once those brides had retreated to gain congratulations from the other guests.
After they seemed to spread “the new news” suddenly the envoy seemed to be re-greeted with much more eager and friendliness as others came and offered consoling hugs to Maisarra who accepted them but otherwise kept sitting in her spot and suddenly seemed to be surrounded by others who had the same look about them, a forced polite pleasantry on their features but he could see in their eyes that their heart was not in it as they distracted themselves with the little appetizers that had been brought out and Maisarra still wouldn’t look in the envoy’s direction before the rest of the Sultanate Quarter came and Rasmie’s family came in and came past them and Daon immediately noticed that Maisarra’s eyes instantly watered and her countenance was beginning to falter as the other people in her group had the same reaction as a few of her brothers seemed to cut their eyes at Maisarra and her female friends while another one of her brothers looked at one particular friend next to Maisarra and looked away guiltily as he wondered if this woman that just came in was the “best friend” who you had alluded to and it was no mistake how most of the Sultanate Quarter came and greeted them respectfully and graciously, but the others- a minority now- ignored them all together and took their positions on the other side of the courtyard as far away from the envoy as they could be while still in the quarter’s main square.
“That bitch Rasime.” Maisarra spat rather hatefully in the common tongue which perked Daon’s ears up and confirmed his suspicions that it was this “Rasime” who you had been talking about as he recalled that first day in court how she was the second bride to be shown in and rejected the offer with prejudice and it was after she left court that the others began to dismiss themselves from even hearing the offer altogether, she must have been popular and influential in her own right and obviously her family had ties not only with your family but others, and those others were now making their own little subgroup as they seemed to be gossiping amongst themselves across the Rakshasa Quarter Square.
Meanwhile Head Councilor Langashi sent an attendant to come over and get you as you came over to her high balcony since there was always a host palace that hosted the High Councilors from the other quarters in the Quarter’s Square and this one had been opened up to her and the others from the Sultanate Quarter and she took you to a small room that had a window on the back of the palace away from the central square just in case any nosy person tried to peer in as you greeted her as she had you sit down with her on a couch.
“So I have found a few candidates for your champion.” Langashi began as she handed you a large classified folder that had files for potential “champions” in them as you looked over them eagerly.
“How much adani gold are you willing to part with?” Langashi asked you curiously.
“Depends on the conversion rate.” You answered offhandedly as you continued to look them over.
“An ounce for a large brick of non moura gold.” Langashi quickly answered before you pulled out one of the larger adani gold pieces you had been given and handed it to her.
“Oh my,” Langashi giggled as she tested its weight in her hand and found the size of the piece that took up her whole palm and then some- to be quite heavy before she called for an attendant to come and to bring equipment so that the piece could be weighed and measured and of course tested before it came back that the gold was 22karat gold, and 2 percent adani mineral before Langashi repeated what the conversion rate would be for gold of the same quality as it’s worth was calculated.
“That is one of over a hundred I was given that I will convert at that rate then. But only under the following conditions- my sister Maisarra was rejected by Rasime’s brother Haydar only moments after the court decision, and in talking with Serhan and Merrattah, I found out that their own siblings were also rejected by those who condemned the match since their families obviously decided to condone the match. So obviously I would want Maisarra, if she so chooses along with the others who got rejected- if they so choose- to be guaranteed favorites of the new champion if they are female or if they are male to get promotions and pay raises so that they can very easily and comfortably afford to keep any wife they want. And if Maisarra chooses to be in this champion’s harem- to be his Sultana Supreme, especially since it is I that am funding the vast majority of his success. I also want this champion to not have a prejudice against orcs especially when they could be potential brothers in law and I want him to be humble enough to be appreciative and gracious and treat her or any other favorite with the same tender loving care and especially respect and dignity it is owed to them and of course protect any heirs produced from such a union with Maisarra and all the other favorites and of course have immunity from fraticide. Plus with an alliance with Yekmeni and whatever state gets re-established. And all of those who are open class who condoned the match will be the private pool for it and any who were open class but condemned the match- they get to stay open classed.” You specified as you looked through them again just to make sure you didn’t miss any details.
“Sounds more than fair.” Langashi readily agreed with a grin as she demurely sipped her champagne. “Once you get there, if you can get at least a few carts of adani steel ingots to be made into new weapons for this champion and his warriors.” She added.
“That won’t be a problem, asking for my 100 gold drakars a month to be adani steel bars and then sending it as tribute back to my family won’t be an issue and of course since my brother Noe is a blacksmith who has many years of forging weapons under his belt, he shouldn’t have any issue to figure out what to do with them, he is very capable.” You reassured her.
“Then we have a deal, do you have a favorite champion?” She asked as she noticed you seemed to have settled on a few of them as you re-read those profiles a third time.
“I will let you, and any seer or priest, priestess or truthsayer who can see what I want in them- to choose, personality and character along with capabilities matter more than appearance to me.” You answered as you handed her the folders back.
“Good, then I will make the announcement of all of this at your Cisora, but for now, keep this conversation private and to yourself. And if after the announcement, Serhan and Merrattah and anyone else was given any adani gold and if they wish to also donate to the cause, I will make notes and of course make them the promise that their own siblings will be favorites.” She answered.
“Good, you may keep that as my first down payment, I will hand over the rest to you tomorrow morning and I will see you at the Bank of Money Changers at 9am at the Capitol.” You told her.
“Excellent, after the exchange I have gifts for you for your journey to Yekmeni along with gifts for the rest of your family. They will be moving too from the Halim Estate to the Palace of Shiloh and your family will receive Aslan Status and then full Sultan and Sultana status if and when Maisarra chooses to be Sultana Supreme which I can’t see her or anyone else ever shooting that offer down.” She offered.
“And any money I don’t spend on my own gifts and supplies for the journey to Yekmeni- I wish to gift to my family that remains here, because surely if Maisarra chooses to be Sultana Supreme of whichever of those champions reaches that criteria, she should also have appropriate funds for such a journey and station.” You told her.
“Of course my dear. Since you got the title of Savia from Lukher himself, which I have come to understand- that means that you are his ‘supreme favorite’, I’m sure once you arrive, it won’t take long before he makes you his queen, from what I have heard from General Sunco, he has punishments awaiting those generalley brides already and was moved that you tried to make sure that he and his family and the Ambassador and her envoy to save face, and thus will get you the justice you deserve from their coup. Now, do make sure he doesn’t kill them, but rather, simply send them back here, they can still be useful to the generalley quarter, especially if they have a great travel under their belt and will gain some useful experience. And do make sure Ashurah unlocks all of the Yekmeni fortress and it’s secrets for you. I have called upon her myself and she is especially excited to go and confided in me that one of the guards confided in her that there is a puzzle door at the bottom of the fortress that is written in tauni hieroglyphics and for as long as Yekmeni has been held by these orcs, the githyanki keep aiming their missiles at the side of the fortress where they think the room is, trying open the room from the side instead of using the door, that is why they keep attacking the place, surely whatever is behind it must be of some great importance and really should only be held under the power of a Dorierran moura queen. And I must admit I too am curious to see what is behind it. Make sure to bring your super book with you to the bank and I will include a tauni language book and a tauni hieroglyphics in it so that you can help her unlock the door just in case it needs more than one person to open it.” She revealed before she seemed remind herself of something.
“Also in your trunk you should have been given a mirror, the size of a picture frame, it’s actually a small messengerari, it should have something of a keyboard on the back of it- and all you need to work it, is the “address” since each messengerari has it’s own identification number- to any messengerari in the world, and you can speak to whoever else has one and I understand that there was one in each trunk, so that means that Serhan, Merrattah, the generalley brides and Maisarra were all given small messengeraris, and you should have been given several, give them to the people you trust the most, like your family, I and the other councilors were given our own and I would very much like for the first number to be programed into your messengerari since there is a way to program your favorites into the messengerari itself so that you can speed up the dialing process by just pushing two buttons instead of typing in the whole sequence of numbers and letters. The Yekmeni orcs have added this adani mineral to the back of the mirror, like the way normal mirrors have silver on the back, these mirrors have adani silver which is very highly conductive and highly reflective and why the images and sounds on the messengerari are as crystal clean and clear as they are, I saw you put your hand up to Lukher’s reflection, could you feel his body heat through it?” She asked.
“I could, I thought it was some extra strong magic being at work though, I didn’t realize it was a technological enhancement.” You answered as you recalled that detail but that wouldn’t explain why Lukher’s voice was off if the messengerari was supposed to be so accurate which gave you some confusion.
“It’s a bit of both from what I’ve come to understand.” Langashi answered. “Still, do remember to bring your superbook so that I can add those tauni language and heiroglyphics books to it.” She reminded you.
“Will do.” You nodded in agreement as she was handed the adani gold drakar back after it had been weighed and then appraised to how much just that one piece was worth as she inspected it and appreciated it’s aesthetic beauty for a moment as you grinned when your estimate that you were sitting on a fortune of adani gold seemed to be right as you did some quick calculations and realized you were now just as wealthy as the High Councilor herself. But instead of hoarding such wealth, you were going to put it to work for you and your family.
“Excellent, now go enjoy the party, I will see you at the bank in the morning and then I will work on getting you a champion worthy of your sister being his Sultana Supreme and enough respect for you and your Lukher to never forget how he came to be a Sultan.” She vowed.
“Thank you High Councilor Langashi,” you thanked her as you bowed and did obeisance to her out of respect which she smiled happily at before you bid her goodbye and practically pranced down the stairs and into the fray of the party just as the feast was brought out.
“You look happier.” Your mother noted as you could not wipe your smile off your face if you tried.
“I am, I just received the best news, but I was unfortunately put under oath to not reveal it just yet because some little details are still being ironed out. But I can tell you that my Cisora will be exquisite and Rasmie and her family will have no choice but to eat their words of rebuke and instead have no choice but offer their congratulations and change their prejudiced attitudes and it just might overturn the vote at our court.” You hinted as Maisarra’s eyes lit up hopefully.
“Really?” Maisarra asked.
“Yes, really. So we should feast until we are full, drink until we are merry and dance until our feet hurt.” You encouraged your family as you ate the feast with them.
After the feast Daon finally worked up the courage to ask Maisarra to dance and Maisarra felt petty enough towards Haydar that she wanted to smear it into his face that she would still enjoy a Cisora even if he rejected her especially since he was currently dancing with other ladies from those who condemned the match and was dancing with them in such a way that she felt he was trying to make her jealous and she would be damned if she didn’t answer back in kind, at least in gesture.
“Are you alright?” Daon asked.
“Yes, I’m feeling much better, thank you for asking me to dance. I needed this.” She answered as Daon was happy to see the light and mirth return to her eyes and smile on her face and even a smugness as they could be seen Rasime and her family as Haydar looked especially jealous and bitter. And especially when Daon would lift and twirl her in the air so effortlessly, way easier and better than Hadyar ever could- it made Maisarra feel like she grew wings as even Irelu worked up the courage to ask Ashurah to dance as she readily did as well and was especially pleased that Irelu could lift and twirl her with just as much ease that Daon was doing with Maisarra while Huda and her mate Gamri did the same, trying to follow the rhythm and style of this dancing as they really felt included in this party.
“Well any friend of yours who rejects your friendship over such a silly thing as politics is no friend at all.” Daon tried to tell Miasarra on the dancefloor after helping toss her up only to catch her again with ease, relishing the feel of her soft supple curves and strength of muscle underneath it in his grasp- as his touches were revenant and respectful, he also hoped they conveyed what his mouth could not, that he wanted her just as much as he respected her.
“I agree,” Maisarra couldn’t help but giggle delightfully as she used her hands on his shoulders to steady herself as he gracefully set her back down on her feet only to move along with the rest of the dancers so that they wouldn’t get run over.
“I would like to be such a friend to you.” Daon boldly proclaimed.
“And I would like to be such a friend to you too.” Maisarra repeated before the dance was over and another came to offer their hand to dance with her as Daon was just a little disappointed when she accepted but flashed him a grateful smile and a little waive.
“The night is still young, I’ll dance with you again before the night ends, I promise.” Maisarra reassured Daon reading his expression which brought a relieved smile to himself as he nodded and excused himself from the dancefloor.
“And?” Sunco asked her son in nadasi as she still sat in her very comfortable chair and slowly enjoyed the other dishes with the feast, enjoying these new flavors in turn as she made notes of what the dishes were so she could make requests for these foods be brought to her palace while she stayed there because they were incredibly delicious.
“Well, we agreed to be friends, for now at least, it’s a start.” Daon answered her in nadasi back.
“Good, all good relationships, romantic or otherwise, should begin as friendships.” Sunco nodded in agreement as Daon kept his eyes on where Maisarra was at all times, seeing who she danced and talked to and laughed with as it was clear she was having fun and enjoying herself before she came back to him for the last dance of the night.
“Will you come this week to give us those swordsmanship lessons?” Maisarra asked hopefully.
“Of course, name the day and time and I’ll be there.” Daon offered.
“Any day you want to. I’ll be open for the first half of the week, but tomorrow should be best, because the latter part of the week, Audrey, I mean, sorry, Savia Audravienneway- rather- will need help in preparing for her Cisora which will be so big that it can’t be contained in our quarter! It’s going to be held in Dorierra’s Main Square which is much bigger than this and the whole of Dorierra is going to be coming! I’m very excited for it.” Maisarra revealed excitedly.
“Then I’m happy I saved my best outfit for such an occasion,” Daon grinned.
“But this one is so handsome? Every time I see you, your outfits are more exquisite than anything I’ve ever seen before, I can’t imagine how you could look any better than you do right now.” Maisarra praised and smiled rather knowingly when he grew bashful under her gaze and her scrutiny, especially since Haydar had always tried to make sure he looked exquisite, only dressing the in best fabrics and styles when he wasn’t on the stage performing since he was an actor but even now, Daon dressed better and in more refined finery than all of Haydar’s family put together.
“Then you should wear one of the outfits you got given then, they should fit you pretty well and you will look much more beautiful than I could look handsome.” Daon encouraged her.
“Then I will, if not to show my support for my sister, but to also enjoy and show appreciation for what you and your family have given us, we are most grateful for it, and especially if you will keep my sister and her future family safe, then there is no measure of my gratitude towards you.” Maisarra offered with an adoring smile.
The next morning you got up extra early and went through all the trunks and grabbed all the gold pieces you could, only saving yourself one of each of the gold pieces so that you could again learn and relearn the money system on the way there before you had it all loaded up into a carriage and went to the bank and met Langashi who used a wizard to put the two books in question into your superbook while your money was handed over, counted, weighed and measured and converted according to Langashi’s order which was twice as high as what was agreed for the Yekmeni orcs as you hinted that Miasarra also had Yekmeni adani gold in her possession and that you wanted her too to have the same conversion rate which Langashi agreed to as well as you were given a receipt for it while Langashi was given the same receipt for the money as Langashi then gave them instructions about what to do with it and how to split it as she gave you and your family a percentage of the exchange as you also handed over all the breadseed you had been given, save but one of every kind so that you could make new bags full later as Langashi happily accepted that on behalf of the champion, of who she would be spending the next week starting correspondances and the interview process so that the right one would be chosen and supported and of course made sure that a good portion of this money being exchanged would be converted into every currency for every land you would be passing through so that if the orcs wondered where their gold went, it could be easily explained away by that which you thought was quite clever as Langashi even added more funds to those funds and made sure to also order some for Serhan and Merrattah as well so that the three of you especially would be provided for well and invited you and your family to her personal palace for the Cisora which you happily accepted on your family’s behalf especially since Langashi revealed that Serhan and Merrattah were staying with Jenobi.
“Also there are those who have expressed a great desire to switch sides, and change their vote from condemn to condone. Rasmime’s brother Rifki sought me out just after you left my side last night and insisted that he wanted to be cleared from his family and change his vote, because last night at the Cisora to see his beloved with your sister and looking just as heartbroken as he felt, he has decided to change sides, of course his family was furious with him over this but after talking to Serhan and especially her sister Belma who was supposed to be Rifki’s betrothed, she was happy to be reconciled with him and happily accepted his proposal, as he took on her name and was promptly kicked out of his own house just this morning so that he had to move in with her so that this Cisora will be Belma’s as well and she will be wed to him the day after, as is customary. I hope you’ll be agreeable to this” Langashi revealed.
“Of course, I only wish all of them could see sense and see that this stupid business about the vote never should have happened to begin with. But you know Rasime, her mother was primed to be Sultana Supreme of Cabbar if Hasim had had a chance to succeed to that throne and it’s like Rasime walks around as if she is a lesser Sultana already. She has always been a proud woman, I just hope she learns a little humility before it gets her into a hole she can not get out of.” You murmured as you happily accepted the new bags of currency from the bank’s exchange since the bank held currency from every nation in the supersphere.
“I agree. Her reaction at the hearing at the High Council Court offended the envoy to the point they almost called it all off and would only be taking you since you had agreed and would be flying you back as soon as you could get packed. It took a lot of convincing and renegotiating for them to stay and she nearly cost us this match and all it could bring and with her involving the entire Sultanate Quarter, was completely out of line and I will do everything in my power to undo what she has done and just might continue to do. And at this point, I am actively looking for any reason I can to put her and her family in their place but with her father being the head of the Council of Elders of the Sultanate Quarter, it will be difficult. She and her whole family are on very thin ice and if they do anything to jeopardize this match and arrangement any further I will have no choice but to make an example out of them and their family.” Langashi confessed.
“Well you did declare that all the noble families in every quarter to come and bring gifts. Part of me thinks she will simply hand me a penny and call that good enough.” You muttered back as the money changers continued to hand you your new funds for your journey that you thankfully still had a chest on a cart to fill it with so you didn’t have to drag it all since it was all too heavy to be carried alone.
“Or something small that you can easily pass off to the generally brides as gifts in turn.” Langashi shrugged off.
“Also since the vote, many have tried to change their votes, I will submit them to you, Serhan and Merrattah for approval since it was against the three of you and your families that these votes were cast.” Langashi revealed as she pulled out a sealed list in envelope form and simply put it down on the counter and slid it to you.
“I will go over a list with them when I see them later today and throughout the week but our Cisora will be the cut off point for any of those who wish to change the vote, I don’t want any more to switch sides after your announcement, I think most of these votes were changed once they learned that there was income involved, if status were involved too, those who secretly hold in their hearts their prejudice would still publically change their votes but would make Maisarra’s life and the lives of the other favorites extremely difficult if they were to gain private pool status for the ressurected sultanate state again.” You insisted.
“Oh of course.” Langashi answered as you took that with you as well and slipped it into your pocket.
You had barely gotten back home and your new funds put away before Serhan and Merrattah came early with their families as the three of you and your families went over the list as it was then agreed that all those who changed their vote and would continue to change their vote only after the announcement that money and income was involved, you made a special note that pending their pardon for the condemn vote to change it to a condone vote that they would only receive half of the percentages of what was originally agreed upon for the families in the quarter as that seemed to please everyone and sent your decisions to approve the whole list with that specification that the families in question also gave appropriate and generous gifts for the Cisora as well so as not to let them all off the hook so to speak which appeased everyone.
Only moments after you gave the list back to Langashi’s attendant did the envoy come to give your family as well as Serhan’s and Merrattah’s along with Ashurah and her family, including the generalley brides and their families- who arrived only moments after envoy did- demonstrations of the weapons and how to wield them as even Langashi and Jenobi sent more of their own attendants to oversee it and make notes of the weapons and how they were wielded as your brother Noe who was a blacksmith did his best to poke and prod about how such extremely good weapons were made and what forging temperatures were needed to melt and work the metal as Ashurah did a lot of the translating between Noe and Huda’s husband Gamri- who was in charge of security for the whole group and was a blacksmith and had made most of these weapons himself as Gamri tried to be a little vague about the exact specifics because the Aki-Ayi tribe prided itself on unbeatable weapons and he didn’t want such precious secrets to go to a Dorierran blacksmith, even if he was a brother of yours because while you were Lukher’s Savia and it was clear that Daon was smitten with your sister and that even Irelu was just as smitten with Ashurah, he knew better than to think with the brain in his cock over the one in his head the way his brother in law Daon was or even his friend Irelu was doing too.
Much to Daon’s delight Maisarra seemed to pick up the Aki-Aya swords very well, and almost intuitively knew how to wield them and was much quicker learner than he realized and she sparred with a feisty ferocity that he thought was incredibly sexy as she fought with heart and courage along with dexterity and nimbleness as she was able to maneuver herself around him with ease.
You on the other hand were much more technical, and methodical, making sure your form was right, that your grip was right, that your weight and balance were right and reading your opponent with an accuracy that was almost unsettling which even Sunco and Gamri were impressed because that’s how Kingu had been, whereas Lukher, while being an excellent fighter, often let his emotions get the better of him, and they felt that you would teach Lukher to be more like Kingu in that respect.
It wasn’t until everyone had left after the “lesson” when Jenobi and Langashi’s “gifts” were dropped off. Practically a few orchards worth of plants from the many Dorierran greenhouses from all over Dorierra along with a ‘house on wheels’ which was like gypsies carriage but made a hundred times better and much larger and longer than any you had seen and already decked out and all you really needed to do was move in your personal items and clothing into it and you were set, it had all kinds secret compartments where you could keep really private items or correspondence including a full medicine cabinet and even a secret poison bar and food stuffs of all kinds as you readily made more breadseed from all the varieties that had been given initially to refill the bags that you had been given so that it wouldn’t appear that any of them had gone missing, really relishing how some of them had cake flavors and consistancies and some of them were down right fruity, like banana bread or berry bread. It was really delicious as you made the mental note of which ones went into which bags to distinguish between all the different varieties while you and your siblings and your servants were happy to receive a handful and a lone breadseed from each variety too so that they too could have access to such delicious foodstuffs for themselves and their families and your household as a whole.
It was all just extraordinarily amazing and there were things amongst the gifts that you hadn’t even thought to give before- or things you had wanted to get but didn’t initially have the funds for. It was amazing and you felt happy and relieved that Langashi and Jenobi both seemed to have worked together on these gifts to cover all of the basis and even had a series of tents for your servants that were traveling with you so that you could have some privacy on your journey there.
And the day after that you went around all of Dorierra, to every quarter to get even more wonderful and lavish gifts, not just for yourself, but for your family and the other brides for the journey and met with the chef and his other cooks and apprentices and their families who would be moving to Yekmeni with you and transferred a good portion of your credit on your card to each of them so that they could stock up on not just the staples but very good and very large quantities of spices and other ingredients and their own personal items and expenses and then after your shopping spree, you gave the rest of the “credit” into your family’s personal account so that when they moved to the Palace of Shiloh, even if the palace had no furnishings, they would have more than enough money to furnish it at least three to five times over and Maisarra could also build and then decorate her new palace in a grand scale and style in whichever sultanate state got resurrected.
However, nothing got past your grandmothers who both of them pulled you aside for a private ‘chat’ over tea.
“So what is really going on Audrey? Why is High Councilor Langashi and High Councilor Jenobi lavishing you with gifts and credits so much more than any other bride for Yekmeni? Is your succession to that throne that certain?” Your maternal grandmother asked you.
“Ok, you can’t tell anyone because Langashi swore me to secrecy, however, since the Cisora is only the day after tomorrow, do you both swear that you will keep this secret until it’s announced?” You put to them.
“Of course Audrey.” They nodded in agreement.
“My succession to the throne according to Langashi and Jenobi is all but assured by Lukher himself from what they have gathered from the Ambassador, the title of Savia, means that I am ‘his supreme favorite’ which Langashi thinks is just one step away from being his queen. Like Imperial Noble Consort and an Empress for the oriental imperium, I don’t know why, but he has. He gave me at first a hundred large gold drakars..well, hang on, let me show you…” You began as you took them to your room to the original trunk and opened it.
“This trunk originally had a hundred of these including other bags of other money that’s all shaped like this.” You said as you handed the last large gold drakar over to them for them to look at. “And then all the monies from all the other chests came out to be about three months worth of stipend.” You explained.
“This is an adani gold drakar, Lukher has promised me a hundred of these a month, each one is worth 200 large non moura gold bricks. That’s the conversion rate that Langashi gave me, it’s usually one drakar for 100 large non moura gold bricks, but she doubled it for me.” You explained.
“Why?” Your paternal grandmother asked.
“Because of the condemn vs. condone vote at court. The whole reason the condemn vs condone even happened in the first place was because those who could not make it into the other Sultanate States as private pool class, got reclassified as ‘open class’ which is barely better than generalley. And that’s why the open class was given the opportunity to be the first to hear of the offer from Yekmeni. Adani is the key to everything. Adani opals, these are air stones, you put this in a mask, any non moura person could fly any flying creature and breathe at cloud level easily without moura genes meaning there could be an army who are not moura, who could take to the skies, but the only way to get that, is through Dorierra who will be the only ones besides Yekmeni to have the stones to begin with.” You revealed as you showed them the raw gemstone.
“Meaning only nations aligned with Dorierra could own the skies besides the heavenly moura who don’t give a shit about what happens on the surface.” Your maternal grandmother finished for you.
“Exactly.” You grinned.
“No wonder Langashi and Jenobi favor you above the others, this match means…everything, it means the future of Dorierra.” You fraternal grandmother realized.
“And if that was the end of that, surely that would be enough, but it gets better- adani is a mineral, and Yekmeni is sitting on at least a few mines of the mineral and it’s the mineral that makes everything better, according to Ashurah, the taunstons who built that fortress there in the first place, adani is a tauni word for ‘enhancer’ and that’s exactly what it does, it enhances everything it touches. Adani steel is far superior than any other metal and why every weapon held against a weapon made from adani steel fails.” You explained as you showed them the first sword and dagger you were given so that they could look them over.
“Adani gold is the most precious gold on the supersphere and adani opium poppies are the most potent and adani breadseed that grows in the wild mountain tops in varieties that only needs elevation and the right soil conditions to grow, no matter the temperature or the sunlight, unlike polar breadseed which needs only the light of the full moon and the aurora borealis to grow in super cold temperatures in rock hard, frozen soil. Yekmeni is the last taunston fortress and it hasn’t been unlocked yet, that’s why I’m bringing Ashurah with me, she agreed to open it and hand over all of it’s real secrets and gifts over to me and me alone.”
“But yet despite all of this, because Yekmeni is held by orcs, half our quarter turned their noses up at us and want nothing to do with us even though the advantages of such a match are astronomical and even our own native orcs are wonderful beings, and they are just being hypocritical. As Lukher’s queen, I wll be in charge of foreign affairs and in charge of dealings that Yekmeni has with all the other nations of the world. So because of the condone vs. condemn vote, what I did in retaliation to that vote and the fallout that occurred just after- was I took this oh so precious adani gold, exchanged it and handed it over to Langashi to find me a champion. And I handed over all but one of every kind of breadseed I was given, to her too. And the deal I made with her was to fund and feed an army, led by a champion who doesn’t look down on us or the orcs who hold Yekmeni but will be gracious and thankful for the backing and being given a Sultan State, who will resurrect and reestablish at least one of the fallen Sultanate States. And if Maisarra so wishes for it- she will be his Sultana Supreme, and all those who were open class who condoned the match, they will be a private pool for the re-established sultanate state, whichever it may be and whatever- whoever wants to call it. So that those who had issue with our quarter getting offers from “second class” beings, will never repeat and it will once again unify the quarter, however, those who chose to condemn the match who are also open class, in retaliation and retribution for the way Maisarra was treated by Haydar and the way she is continued to be treated by Rasime and her family- they will stay open class and will never be invited back into the new pool. Not unless they are prepared to do a metric fuck ton of graveling for forgiveness.” You explained as both of your grandmothers nearly tackled you in hugs and kisses and praise and congratulations.
“And after the Cisora, the family will be moved to the Palace of Shiloh and if Maisarra becomes Sultana Supreme, who knows which and what palaces we might be moved into next.” You grinned schemingly.
“Of course, of course! Do not worry about a thing, leave everything to us. We will take care of Maisarra, she will be the Sultana Supreme and she will see vengeance and justice for the way that despicable piece of shit treated her. May the name of your Lukher be praised and may his gods and our gods protect you from the evil eye and all harm. The fact that he is an orc, is no curse or blight at all, but a blessing, he is no doubt strong and courageous and will protect you and your children by him. And only you could have captured him with just a smile. You beautiful and clever girl.” Your maternal grandmother reassured you.
“Now, beware of the other brides who will see your goods and become jealous. Say that you got them to represent all the brides as a whole, instead of just yourself, that will appease them for now. When you get there, have no eyes for anyone but Lukher and may your heart beat true to him and to your family, both here and there and may you never have to choose between them, for they are one and the same. And may his heart beat only for you.” Your paternal grandmother urged you in turn.
“Now, show me which of these lovely clothes from your Lukher you will wear to your Cisora…” They asked as you showed them all the clothes you were given from all the trunks as they had you try them all on for them before they decided which one looked the most becoming on you especially from all the jewelry you were given along with cosmetics before everything else was packed away and loaded into your own mini caravan which they happily explored with you as they each took turns blessing each part of it so that you would have a safe journey before they informed you that the very same native orcs who came and rescued them from the fall of their sultanate states would be the same orcs and their descendants who would be escorting you to Yekmeni and that they would be back in time for Maisarra to “complete her training” and of course escort her as well when the time would come for it.
