B’z presents UNITE #01 has been announced!
Translation by me of the B’z presents UNITE #01 website, found here. Please credit if used.
The first rock project where B’z will be the organizers themselves, “B’z presents UNITE #01″ will take place at Osaka-jo Hall and Yokohama Arena. Mr. Children will be performing at Osaka-jo Hall, while GLAY will be performing at Yohokama Arena. A virtual live and, for the first time in 2 years, an in-person live will take place!
The coronavirus pandemic that began in 2020 and continues into 2021. Last year in November, B’z held their first virtual live without an audience “B’z SHOWCASE 2020 -5 ERAS 8820-” for five days, changing their whole set list and stage list. Even though it was a virtual live with no audience, B’z showed their unshakeable presence once again through their transcendent musical skills and overpowering performance.
Even with no insight into what the future may hold and with each of their respective tours suspended, Tak Matsumoto and Koshi Inaba sought to find a solution, thinking, “It’s because of these kinds of times that we must do what we can do, we must take on new challenges.” Therefore, the first rock project where B’z will be the organizers themselves “B’z presents UNITE #01″ was decided to be held.
Even through the difficulties of holding a national tour at this time, living through the coronavirus pandemic that has lasted more than a year, and having experienced 5 ERAS, not stopping at virtual lives with no audience, to bring back even a little of the experience of bringing their physical selves to a live audience, Matsumoto and Inaba hoped to not lose that experience. In addition, under this situation, inviting Mr. Children and GLAY who also lead Japan’s music scene, uniting to stand on stage together, aiming to push music to new heights, they decided to perform together with the agreeance of the two bands.
This will be Mr. Children’s first live with a live audience since their 2019 tour “Against All GRAVITY” and will be sure to attract a lot of attention, not just from music fans. GLAY, who will be performing at Yokohama Arena who have also held energetic virtual and live audience concerts to protect the entertainment industry, will be sure to attract attention as well to see what kind of performance they will bring to the concert. B’z, who will work as organizers, while having looked over the setlist’s entire change at last year’s -5 ERAS-, are said to be carefully examining the setlist for “UNITE #01″ at Osaka-jo Hall and Yokohama Arena.
Though this is a new challenge, through holding “B’z presents UNITE #01″, B’z hope to bring even the smallest light to the concert and entertainment industry.

B’z / Tak Matsumoto Everyone, it’s been a long time since I’ve written to you. How have you been spending your time? After our live showcase 5 ERAS, we’ve been working on creating new works. However, we are thinking we must stand on the stage and help revive the music industry which has taken a huge blow because of the coronavirus pandemic. “UNITE”, this is different from the LIVE-GYM performances B’z have done. B’z performances will take on a new shape with “UNITE”, and thus, this is a challenge. This time with the cooperation of our wonderful friends Mr. Children and GLAY, we hope to strike against the coronavirus pandemic together. With gratefulness towards Mr. Children and GLAY who accepted our offer, I’m excited to meet everyone after a long time. IT’S SHOWTIME! B’z / Koshi Inaba We’ve lived through this one year, musicians and bands hit by a wall we’ve never seen before, reminded that we once thought that lives and tours were usual events. Though as B’z we performed a virtual live with no audience and such, we talked together about a possible opportunity for to do a live that births a new excitement, and thus we have come to “UNITE”, formed by B’z performing with other bands, something we have never done before. From the bottom of my heart, I am grateful for Mr. Children and GLAY who agreed to participate in our new challenge, as well as the staff who were open-minded and inquisitive. When the day comes, I’d like to sing with the fans while feeling to the fullest the potentials of music that are still there. It’s crazy. My excitement is neverending.
Mr. Children / Kazutoshi Sakurai There are doors we haven’t opened yet. There are new bonds that will be born. It makes me simply, happily excited that there are still “not yet experienced“ and “new” things for us. To Matsumoto-san, Inaba-san, To those of you who love B’z music above all else, Thank you for letting us meet this amazing opportunity. I’m excited to meet everyone at the live venue on the day we perform! Let’s enjoy this with all we got!
GLAY / TAKURO I’m GLAY’s guitar player TAKURO who will be participating in Rock Project “B’z presents UNITE #01.” The moment that I was asked to participate in this first ever event B’z is doing, where even through the long coronavirus pandemic, they never lost hope and want to push through the future with our hearts as one, I think of this moment with honor. Thank you. Though the world is in an unpredictable state, we, GLAY, would like to once more believe in the power that music holds and stand on the Yokohama Arena stage. It’s because this event is a musician’s message that I am especially looking forward to this night-only session. I hope this will be a moment of peace for music fans who have been long awaiting to attend a live performance.

Connecting Sonic Characters to Japanese Songs
Super Sonic: Ashi Oto ~Be Strong by Mr. Children
“I was dreaming of the future and it isn’t far off. With this step and the next step, I stamp my feet! Even if a rain cloud blocks your view, we can walk and search for sunlight again. In times when there is no light and lonely nights come, surely someone out there can hear these footsteps of mine.”
I really want this one to be special. Ever since Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Super Sonic has appeared as a part of this grand finale to an adventure. Usually it’s accompanied by buttrock and a cool boss fight. However, I’d like to think about how Super Sonic is a symbol of hope and hero to many. Sonic only transforms when it’s absolutely necessary and those are dire times. Therefore, Super Sonic and the Chaos Emeralds could be perceived as a miracle; a final beckon of hope.
I feel like this beautiful song can reflect both how Super Sonic is perceived in-universe, but also as a reflection Sonic may have after the adventure is over. He’s tired, but he’s won. He was a hero and made a difference.
In the words of Sonic Adventure 2, “A new day brings new adventure. But for now... rest easy, heroes.”
