Ahyoung was worried that she wouldn’t wake up early enough, but her worry had been for nought. It was Marie’s birthday, so, of course, she’d prepared as much as she possibly could have without the other knowing. At least she hoped she’d been sneaky enough, one just needed to look under her mattress, open her desk’s drawer… well. Maybe she hadn’t been as sneaky as she could have, but she’d tried her best. Either way, the other hadn’t shown any signs of knowing, so she was content to go through with her plan.
Tip-toeing around their room as quietly as possible, she collected all the little gifts. The wand she’d made (there was a note hanging from it, saying “don’t try to swish it!!” in bold red letters, after all, it was her first real self-made wand and she’d rather not see her friend explode in front of her eyes, birthday or any other day, no thank you!) It was made of peach-wood, which some believed to have protective properties, plus it was pretty, gave a nice scent, but Ahyoung also chose it because peaches simply reminded her of Nahyun.
The core was dove feathers, like her patronus, but also to show her free spirit. Not just any dove, though, but the feathers of a yellow-breasted ground dove, a feather of every colour. She’d made a wood-ring as well, which was made with the same wood and core as the girl’s real wand, plus a frame showing a magically moving picture of the two on their first day at Mokseong.
Everything was arranged on her desk, which she’d cleaned up over the past days, each gift hidden in wrapping paper that showed a night sky with twinkling, moving stars. She’d asked someone for help on charming the paper, so the stars would show the night sky of the girl’s birthday.
Now, the hardest task followed. She had to sneak out, get the food she’d prepared and run back, hoping she’d arrive before her friend woke up, though it was really early still. She did have hope.
And Ahyoung got lucky. She hoped the scent of fresh croissants and coffee would wake the other. There was… a lot more food, one thing smelling better than the next and she could feel herself growing hungry as she waited, sitting on her bed, but as it was the other’s birthday, she didn’t want to wake her either.
So she waited until she could greet Marie with a cheerful shout of “Good morning, happy birthday!!” and hug her as soon as the other managed to sit up.
Nahyun was generally a late riser. So Ahyoung really had nothing to worry about when she buzzed about to prepare for her birthday. When the girl did rise, it was due to the delicious smell of food and coffee that made her sit up and rub her eyes sleepily. “Coffee....,” she murmured, only to get tackled instantly and realizing that yes, it was indeed her birthday.
“Oh... oh my gosh- wait is that way? And all those presents,” she continued, eyes disorientated and voice confused the moment she saw the gifts wrapped in enchanted paper. Slowly realizing that she had been completely and utterly spoiled for her birthday right the moment she woke up, Nahyun could only squish her best friend back. She didn’t need to open the gifts to know that she was going to love them.
“Merci, ma chérie,” she murmurs, nuzzling her cheek against Ahyoung’s. She really did love her best friend.
