sorry it's not even that like, i think you're dumb or something if you like this album. you can like whatever you want. i'm just baffled anyone would. it's like sabrina carpenter and lana del rey had a baby and then that baby was put through the washing machine and any actually interesting things the baby had about them that they inherited from their parents washed off. but somehow the annoying qualities remained. and then that baby released an album.
also this is just being pedantic but i i’m not sure she actually knows what a showgirl is
like she’s literally just not a good lyricist. she was at one point but she’s not now. and she is quite literally incapable of writing about anything that is not herself. bad combo.
i know that i say this every time she releases music but usually i do find one or two songs i actually like and listen to. like i thought tpd was also boring and kind of not good but even that had down bad and i can fix him and who’s afraid of little old me, songs that i actually kind of like. and frankly i didn’t find tpd BAD, i just found every song unremarkable and disposable in the way that i couldn’t remember half the songs as soon as i finished listening them for the first time. in contrast i can’t find a single song i would ever willingly listen to again on this and i’m going to remember them because some of the lyricism is actually really bad. like i am straight up just not having a good time i don’t know what you want me to say.
you know one thing that i do whenever tswift releases a new album is i try to identify the one or two songs that i’d actually be cool with hearing over and over and over again in public, like songs that are Fine and Inoffensive in a way that i’m okay with hearing it five thousand times while grocery shopping for the next six months or whatever. and like. this is remarkable in a way. this entire album is so boring but at the same time i find every song like ACTUALLY annoying in a way i don’t usually find her. like if any of these actually get unironically popular i’m gonna be constantly gritting my teeth in public. spock voice fascinating.
listening to showgirl for the first time is great because it’s like ‘omg new worst song you’ve written just dropped’ and it’s like every other song
i think what tswift really needs is one person on her team who is completely unimpressed with her because say what you want but she has seemed to surround herself with yes men who are going to heap praise on her no matter what and at this point even the media is unwilling to criticize her or even say her projects don’t live up to expectations. i don’t think we would have gotten to the point of lyrics idealizing the 1800s if someone along the line told her maybe not everything she does is perfect the first go around and she needs someone to edit her work before it goes onto the next biggest album in the world.
