In which Minji gets a job offer.
I don't have much to say for this chapter note-wise... mostly because I currently feel like crap because of allergies putting me in a chokehold. But I refuse to not post just because I feel shitty! If even covid can't stop me from updating a fic, nothing will! (note: that was two years ago, i don't have covid right now and i hope never to get it again).
Anyway! The rest of the RFA is here, and I think the only warning I have for this chapter is Minji's fear of government facilities. So, enjoy!

The RFA
The door abruptly slamming shut wasn’t what scared Minji half to death. What did do the job, however, was the sudden and rather loud burst of noise that she could only describe as a mixture of static, electrical feedback and harsh dial tone. It made her shout, her phone falling from her hand as she jumped. It clattered to the floor, the screen flashing with a series of codes in such quick succession that Minji couldn’t catch any of it clearly.
Silence fell a second later, and lasted for a minute that seemed as if it were an eternity. Minji’s breath was caught in her throat. She wasn’t sure what just happened or if she should even move. What just happened? Did some of her magic leak out and affect her phone? …no, it couldn’t have. She was wary, sure, but she was calm. She only lost control of her powers when she lost control of her emotions. Sure, the noise had scared her enough to make her drop her phone but--
…her phone. She dropped her phone on the floor. With a small surge of panic in her veins, Minji quickly dropped to her knees, picking up her phone and silently praying that the fall hadn’t broken it. To her relief, as soon as it was in her hands, it began pinging with notifications. Good… it still worked. She turned it back on, unlocking it. What was all that just… now…
When Minji unlocked her phone, she was greeted with an unfamiliar app. A series of messages popped up as her brow furrowed.
14:57 PM
Jumin Han, ZEN, 707, Yoosung★, Jaehee Kang, MC
Yoosung★: Failed my midterms fml T_T
707: cuz you played LOLOL all night lol.
Jumin Han: If you want to work for our company, then you need to take care of your GPA.
Yoosung★: I’m still on the list?!
Jumin Han: Yes.
What was this? It looked like some kind of messenger, but… Minji didn’t remember downloading anything like it… and she didn’t recognize any of the names of the people that she had been thrown into a chatroom with. Did that happen when she dropped her phone, or…?
707: Nice~! Can’t believe u get to work straight after graduating lol. In this day and age!
ZEN: It's nepotism.
Jumin Han: It’s called recruitment.
ZEN: It’s giving a free pass instead of actually training someone.
ZEN: What’s even the difference between recruitment and nepotism?
707: Thought they’re the same? O_O?
Minji slowly stood, unable to take her eyes off of her phone’s screen. She swallowed, willing the small tingle she felt in her fingers to ease away. What was going on…?

The Fairy Godmother - Chapter 1 - baileek313 - Mystic Messenger (Video Game) [Archive of Our Own]
Since she was young, Minji had always seen herself as a fairy godmother -- granting the desires of those around her to bring them joy that would last long after the stroke of midnight. She even had the magic powers of one to boot. However, an already unnatural life changes when she returns to the country that she once called home. Her plans are thrown out the window by a mysterious person and even more mysterious app that leads her to meet the strange members of the RFA. Life is full of surprises, as Minji is about to find out while coming to terms with her own plans being turned into a mixed-up mess and forging some new connections within her heart.
This has been an idea of mine for a while, but after how bad my last MM fic went years ago (in my eyes anyway, looking back on it now) I've been hesitant to post it. However, after getting a friend to take a look at the first two chapters I've written of this one, I'm confident enough to finally start sharing it.
The basic idea is that the MC is the daughter of Heejung and the Wizard from Dandelion, and how that has an effect on the story and a few relationships going forward, along with a few other... surprises that I have in store, as you'll see in future chapters so long as you decide to stick around.
That being said, sit back, relax and enjoy~

A Mysterious Message
Bad luck. That was what this all had to be. Extremely bad, insanely rotten luck. The moment that Minji Chung’s plane had landed at the airport, there had been one bad thing after another. The plane ride itself was over twelve hours, and she was lucky enough to get in the small amount of sleep that she did. Following the rather rough landing, someone had spilled their coffee on her and ruined the one sweater that she did have on hand. Every piece of her luggage had been lost in transit, leaving Minji with only her carry-on bag of essentials and the small amount of spare clothing she could fit. And finally, the cherry on top, the cousin that she was meant to stay with flaked on her.
So far, things were not looking too great. She was essentially homeless in a city that she barely knew anything about. She wasn’t even sure if she could call her parents, with the time difference between here and across the ocean being far too big. What if they were asleep and her call woke them up? What if her call didn’t connect at all? That made the pit in her stomach already worse than it was. What was she supposed to do now?
Minji stared at her blank phone screen. Maybe calling her cousin one more time would help…? When she called before to let him know that her flight had landed and she was waiting for him, all that she got in return was voicemail. And when she tried again after that, it was an automated message saying that the number she had dialed was out of service. If this was a prank, then Minji did not find it funny in the slightest.
Especially since it meant that she now had nowhere to go. Minji sighed from where she sat on the sidewalk in dismay. This whole move was meant to be a good thing for her. She had been struggling to search for a job (the fact that she and her parents were constantly moving around made it difficult to keep one down in the first place) so when her cousin offered her a place working with him by helping him with his event planning business, it had been a dream come true. She had loved helping her father set up any party that they hosted back home, and seeing the smiles on the faces of clients as their wishes came true…
Just the thought of it made Minji beyond ecstatic. As a child, she would spend countless hours reading and rereading fantasy and fairy tales to escape from the harshness of reality when it got too much to deal with. She loved reading stories of heroes and heroines going on journeys and their wishes coming true. As she read, she found that more than anything, she wanted to do the same. Not going on epic journeys and fighting dragons. That would’ve been impossible. No, she wanted to make wishes come true. There were plenty of ways to do that in reality, but she saw that the best way was to help create spectacular events. It could turn the world into one of a fairy tale, even for a short while.

When I first encounter your Mixed AU. I was expecting maybe the personalities also swap but it still kept, I still like it though
I was considering that when making the AU, but I felt I could be more creative and puzzle-solving if I challenged myself to keep their personalities and somehow make it work. It certainly was very fun making it. ^^ Glad you like it, even if the expectations were not what they seemed!
Hello! I'm new to Mystic Messenger, i just want to say I like your Mixed AU! The idea MC and Rika switch roles is something I didn't expect. I do expect others to switch roles but not MC and Rika!
Thank you! I wanted to commit to the swapping of everyone, so I swapped EVERYONE, including the protag and antag lol Plus, it makes the antagonist motivations different... :) Also, Rika is an awful person in canon, so I wanted to give her a chance at being a good or at least better person in my AU lol (I'd draw more of the designs rn, but art block smh, I'll get to it eventually lol)
Actually posting this shitpost because @marshmallowprotection made me draw this. So, I must subject yall to this
