Dear Naka-Con.

I have attended your convention for years now, starting in 2018. In all that time, the AMV contests have been a highly anticipated event for guests and competitors alike.

There is a sense of community knowing the people in the room with you are watching AMVs made by them or their friends. It supports the local artists of the midwest, and brings us all together as creators.

Tell us why then, that you have decided to open this contest for non-attendees. Other changes I understand, such as pre-screening and online submission. But non-attendees submitting AMVs for competition purely for the prize money is a slap in the face to the people who built your convention over the past 20 years.

The flimsy reasoning of "Other cons allow outside submissions" is patronizing at best. Why does Naka have to be like other conventions? Why does that involve shunning the local anime scene.

For years Naka has prided itself on being Kansas grown.

You have buried that legacy under the concept of commercialization.
