btw. if you're wondering how susan cremating her siblings in my canonverse fits into my narnian funeral headcanons where 10 times out of 10 they will bury the body instead of burn it. it's because there's no narnia to return them to. no land to give them back.

In my mind, Caspian and his crew didn't just give the "Burnt Island" its name because it seemed to have been raided, and they didn't just sail away quickly because there was nothing more to see.

Instead, they gave it that name because they found some things that simply seemed burned. They weren't burnt, however, and that was so eerie that they quickly sailed away. What am I talking about? Some things that exist on Earth, too: and if taken one by one, they look interesting; but altogether, something would seem of.

May I present to you: black beaches, black velvet petunia, black diamond apple.

Truly though, Narnia is basically the shire but if it had a castle and if some elves and dwarves decided they wanted to settle and go for the quiet life or something.

Like I think I’ve talked about this before but I like the concept of the whole “a son of Adam must rule” thing is less about a weird thing about humans having authority and moreso that native narnians are peaceful Peter Rabbit, Wind in the Willows, Frog and Toad coded hobbits by nature. They aren’t conquerors and they aren’t warriors. They’re hobbits.

(With exceptions maybe. It’s hard to think of narnian centaurs without thinking of how they are in the movie. But bookswise centaurs are most commonly mentioned to be sages and philosophers and seem to only train for battle when necessary)

But the country narnia is surrounded by other kingdoms, kingdoms that aren’t like this. Kingdoms with lots of colonialist minded men and giants.

What I’m saying is the history of Humans* “needing” to reign over Narnia is that Narnia needs a Gandalf and the historical kings and queens collectively are what Gandalf is to the shire.

*(debateable. I also like the idea that the kings and queens descended from frank and Helen all have some non human ancestry because canonically their children married dryads and stuff)

So like, I don’t really know what I want the giants in narnia to look like it I were to draw them from the silver chair.

Especially since giants seem to almost have very different types to them. Like Father Time is implied to have had his own ancient kingdom, and that he’s a different sort of giant than the ones in harfaang.

And the ettinsmoor giants that throw rocks at hill eustace and puddleglum are different too though when I think of it, they could be of the same “type” as the harfaang ones it’s just that they’re the peasants/of a differ by class.

All I know is I kind of like the idea of making the Harfaang king VERY Henry the 8th inspired. But that’s all I’ve got.

Okay so like “officially” (or about as official as you can get with c.s. Lewis) the lore in Narnia meaning the entire world narnia exists in not the country itself, most human civilizations in Narnia come from people in various points stumbling through some sort of inter dimensional portal and then living here. Narnia is the only actual “country” with people from that soil in theory.

Like the telmarines are all descended from pirates in our world that fell through a portal into the narnian world and colonized narnia itself.

We don’t really get explanations for calormen, the lone islands, the seven isles or archenland so I’m just assuming here but I like that idea.

So my thinking is that for my version of it narnian architecture and clothing and etc would be the most like, fantastical, meanwhile the other lands would have cultures more grounded and “human.” Though obviously some human influence I guess.

Of course over time even those human cultures would change. Like maybe telmarines start out being very 1:1 with the culture of the time period and area they came from (I haven’t decided what that is other than vaguely carribean or Spanish maybe) but over time it becomes it’s own thing. Like I’m thinking about how for example the nations in ATLA are very clearly inspired by certain cultures in certain time periods but they’re still their own fictional thing in some ways.

Maybe the islands are where many different people from different places have ended up. Like not as much of a direct ancestry as telmar.

I think I like the idea of archenland having maybe a heavy Irish or scottish heritage. I’d like them to be more classic fairytale in a medieval way to contrast with narnia being more elvish/not as clearly based in a specific human time period/fashion style. But idk what that all looks like

Narnia headcanon

We all know Christmas exists in Narnia. But why, what is being celebrated? Christ was never born in Narnia.

Obviously, the holiday was already introduced by King Frank and Queen Helen. Now, my theory is that they decided it should be a celebration of Narnia's creation and simply changed the symbolism of the typical Christmas traditions from Earth.

Like, the decoration of the Christmas tree symbolizes the apple Digory brought (red balls), the Lion's mane (stars), the lantern (candles) and so on. A narnian nativity scene consists of a circle of animals (two of each species), representing the moment when Aslan gave them speech (normal ones would just have a couple of animals, but the one in Cair Paravel that is put up in the courtyard every year has life-size figures of every speaking animal in Narnia. There was one addition to that circle after LWW, when a pair of mice was added).

And that's why in the Hundred Years' Winter, there was "always winter and never Christmas." It wasn't because Jadis had some special beef with Father Christmas, it was because Christmas would symbolize a rebirth of Narnia and the coming of Aslan.
