seoul didn't shine half as bright when it took nayeon away from you.

you knew you weren't to date an idol; you knew the maintenance would grow too strained, you knew she'd slip away at the earliest hours, hushed as she slid through the door, you knew her time would always be committed solely to her work and her fans. not that any of that stopped you from trying, of course.

nayeon was only your first love, the girl you'd grown alongside. you'd seen her through the early stages, debating whether or not she should pursue the track of becoming a celebrity. you remembered when she first prompted the idea to you, a childlike joy lingering in her words as she waved her hands in the air. she was all dramatics then, exclaiming that she'd be 'the biggest sensation ever.' it was only a dream then, though, not the painful reality of packed schedules that only dragged longer and longer as the years passed. still, not thinking that far ahead in the slightest, you coaxed her, egged her on to become some world renowned diva who's face would cause faces to drop all along the country. it's not that you thought it wouldn't happen for her, no, you always saw that spark in her that was different from the rest, it was that you severely underestimated what the situation meant.

then came the auditioning phase. you helped her record the video she'd send in, the one that she'd be looking back on in interviews years in the future with pride filling her chest. you wondered if the pride was ever laced with a tinge of melancholy, knowing full well who was behind the camera. in the moment, you'd flash a small thumbs up as you reviewed the tape, eyes blown wide because she was honestly that amazing to you. she'd sling her arms around your neck, thanking you softly as she eased into your touch, prodding you lightly to help her send it in. you did, of course, you were always one to follow her every order, and as quickly as it was sent, she was knocking at your door again.
