he still hoards old Mavericks hoodies in the back of his closet and refuses to throw them out even though he’s fully locked in with the Lakers (sort of). sometimes you catch him wearing one late at night, hood up, quiet, like he’s letting himself feel it for a second before he goes back to being “that guy” everyone expects.
he stress-cooks now which is new and it’s always very specific slovenian comfort food he half-remembers from childhood. the kitchen ends up a disaster, but he stands there in socks, stirring something at 1am, asking you to taste it like your opinion is the only one that matters (it does)
he hates when you see him doubt himself like on nights where nothing is falling, he avoids eye contact after the game, keeping conversations short because he doesn’t want you to see that crack in his confidence
he gets more clingy after bad games than he’ll ever admit out loud like instead of talking about it he just follows you from room to room, sitting way too close, resting his head on your shoulder like he’s subconsciously grounding himself
he watches film at home and gets way too into it, pausing every five seconds to explain a play to you, even if you didn’t ask like “see this? i should’ve cut here” and then he looks at you expecting full engagement
his accent gets thicker when he’s tired or emotional especially late at night when it’s just the two of you like he drops the polished interviews version of himself and you get the real luka who mumbles half his sentences into your shoulder
adding to that, he calls you “baby” in that slightly slurred accent when he’s tired and it sounds so different from how he talks to everyone else
he hates sleeping alone now especially after the trade because everything already feels unfamiliar so even if he gets home at 3am from a road game, he’ll wake you up just enough to pull you closer before he actually falls asleep.
he’s not big on grand romantic gestures, but he’s ridiculously attentive like he’ll notice you mentioned liking something once weeks ago and it just shows up, no explanation, no big moment, just him shrugging like it wasn’t a big deal (very much european dad bringing in fruit bowl in your bedroom as an act of appreciation lmao)
he’s obsessed with lazy mornings with you like no alarms, just sunlight coming in while he’s half awake, pulling you closer and tracing random shapes on your arm instead of getting out of bed
he’s weirdly particular about how his coffee is made now and if you get it exactly right, he’ll take one sip, look at you, and go “yeah… this is perfect,” like you just passed some invisible test
he overthinks the future more than people realize especially after being traded, like everything feels less stable and sometimes he holds you a little tighter like he’s trying to anchor himself to something permanent
he hums without realizing it especially when he’s doing something mindless like tying his shoes or scrolling on his phone, and it’s always the same couple of songs on repeat
he worries, quietly, that you’ll get tired of the lifestyle - the travel, the pressure, the constant attention, and even though he never says it directly, it shows in the way he asks “you’re okay with all this, right?” at random times.

This lowkenuinely might be a little parasocial, but idrc. It’s Tumblr, not ESPN. Anyway, I might have to start an Autistic! Amen Thompson agenda. Everyone thinks he’s so cool and aura-ful, the next Anthony Edwards. Watch one post-game interview and you’ll see what I’m talking about. I think Amen fights and acts out when he gets, like, overstimulated. Also, a lot more athletes are autistic than we think. That’s why they’re so good and made it so far—the hyperfixation.
All Amen follows are basketball players or upcoming basketball talent. No musicians, no artists, no football players. He’s not on TikTok (as far as anyone knows). He rarely cracks jokes or laughs. His face is usually flat, and his voice is monotone. I mean, he could just be a serious person dedicated to his craft, but idk. Something to think about.
