The first thing you noticed when you opened your eyes was not the pearly gates, nor a blazing pit of fire.
No, it was a boy tripping over his own scythe.
“Son of a—!” he yelled, faceplanting into what looked like an immaculately maintained graveyard lawn.
You blinked. “Did I die?”
The boy—dressed in all black, a hood slightly askew, cheeks pink with embarrassment—jumped to his feet.
“Uh, yeah! Technically. You slipped on a banana peel. Very tragic. Very… Looney Tunes.”
“I what?”
Haechan, your newly assigned Grim Reaper (as per the sparkly name badge crookedly pinned to his cloak), flipped open a glowing clipboard.
“Banana peel, cracked skull, instant departure. Classic comedic exit. You’re trending in the underworld forums, actually.”
You just stared at him.
He grinned. “Anyway, I’m here to guide your soul to the next phase of existence. Hopefully, if I can figure out where I put the keys to the portal… one sec,”
He patted his pockets, then his sleeves, then somehow pulled a cat out of his hood.
“Wrong pocket. That’s Mr. Bubbles. He likes naps.”
You tried not to laugh, but it bubbled up anyway.
“You’re the least grim Grim Reaper I’ve ever imagined.”
Haechan beamed. “Thank you! I pride myself on being a one-of-a-kind experience. You only die once, right?”
Suddenly, he froze, looked back at his clipboard, and then squinted at you.
“Oh. Uh... oops.”
You raised an eyebrow. “Oops?”
“You weren’t supposed to die. Turns out you’re just in a very realistic coma… classic rookie mix-up! You’ve got about three more decades left. My bad!”
“Wait, so I’m not dead?”
“Not anymore! I’ll just… escort you back.”
He waved his scythe in a circle, muttered something in what sounded suspiciously like baby talk, and a glowing door appeared.
Before you stepped through it, you turned to look at him.
“Do all near-death experiences involve clumsy reapers with cats in their hoods?”
“Only the lucky ones,” he winked. “Tell your soul not to wander next time, okay?”
You smiled, warmth filling your chest.
“You’re kind of sweet. For a reaper.”
“I’m multi-talented,” he said proudly, “and extremely underpaid.”
Later, when you woke up in the hospital, your first words were, “Tell me someone got that banana peel on camera”.
—
You were sipping on hospital-grade orange juice, trying not to think too hard about the fact that you technically died a few days ago, when the window creaked open.
Not the door—the third-floor window.
You turned, expecting a nurse. Instead, you saw a familiar black cloak tangled in the curtains and a very flustered Haechan whisper-yelling, “I meant to be suave! Dang it!”
“You again?” you blinked. “Aren’t you supposed to be… I don’t know, ferrying lost souls or playing chess with Death?”
“Shhh!” he tumbled into the room, shutting the window behind him. “This is highly illegal Grim Reaper behavior, okay? I could get demoted to haunting empty office buildings.”
“Why are you here?”
He looked sheepish, scratching the back of his neck.
“I just… wanted to make sure you were okay. Coma exits can be disorienting. Plus, I accidentally bonded with your cat while you were out.”
“I don’t have a cat.”
“You do now, Mr. Bubbles moved in. Long story.”
You couldn’t stop the laugh that escaped.
“You broke into the mortal plane for a wellness check and to return a cat?”
He flopped onto the visitor’s chair with all the dramatics of someone who’d spent too long around death.
“Also to see if you remembered me. Most people don’t. Souls blur dreams and all that. But you seem freakishly grounded, so… hey.”
You looked at him.
The same boy who tripped over his own scythe, accidentally almost kidnapped your soul, and now sat in a hoodie with a scythe keychain clipped to his jeans like a fashion statement.
“I remembered,” you said softly. “It’s hard to forget someone who fumbled death so charmingly.”
He smirked, “Flattery will get you everywhere. Even the afterlife.”
Just then, a nurse knocked on the door and poked her head in.
“Everything alright?”
You looked at the empty chair. Haechan had vanished, poof, like a ghost with stage fright.
“Yeah,” you said, lips twitching, “I think I was just… daydreaming.”
But as the door shut again, you noticed a sticky note on your tray.
It read, “Glad you lived. Try not to die weirdly again. P.S. Your cat likes tuna. —H”
—
You were not planning to almost die again. But after your last dance with the afterlife—and the chaotic, cat-carrying Grim Reaper who visited you twice—you couldn’t stop thinking about him.
So you did what any rational person would do.
You Googled ‘how to summon a Grim Reaper’.
Turns out, most of the internet thinks you’re either goth, cursed, or both. But buried deep in an old forum with suspiciously good grammar, you found a spell titled,
“For When You Just Wanna Talk to Your Reaper Crush 💀❤️”
“Seems legit,” you muttered, lighting a candle on your nightstand and opening a can of tuna (just in case).
You whispered the words. Nothing happened.
Then, from your closet, came a muffled voice.
“Okay, I swear if this is another cult—oh COME ON.”
The door flew open, and out stumbled Haechan, one arm tangled in your winter coats, the other holding a portal scroll like a disgruntled delivery boy.
He looked around, spotted you on the bed in your pajamas, and froze.
“You. Summoned. Me.”
You gave him a small wave.
“Hey.”
“That’s a Level Three Soul Violation!” he hissed, stepping out and closing your closet like it was a crime scene.
“You can’t just summon a Grim Reaper for—” He paused and sniffed the air. “Is that tuna?”
“For Mr. Bubbles,” you said innocently. “Thought he might want to visit, too.”
From under your bed came a meow.
“Traitor,” Haechan muttered at the cat before turning back to you.
“You risked the balance of life and death for… what, exactly?”
You looked down, suddenly shy.
“I just… missed you.”
That shut him up. For a full five seconds. Then he sat beside you with a soft thud.
“I’m not supposed to get attached, you know.”
You nodded. “I’m not supposed to die twice in a month, but here we are.”
He sighed. “You’re trouble.”
“Not deadly trouble.”
He laughed. “That’s a low bar, but I’ll allow it.”
You hesitated, then reached for his hand. He let you.
“You could get in trouble for being here,” you said quietly.
He shrugged. “Yeah, but I hear haunting office buildings isn’t that bad. Free Wi-Fi.”
You smiled. “So… you’ll visit again?”
He squeezed your hand and softly smiled at you.
“Next time, just leave the closet open. Saves me the coat battle.”
Warnings: Haechan is a little mean, mentions of toxic and abusive relationship (please don't read or interact if you're uncomfortable)
Notes: this is Haechan's part of 'nct dream as love tropes', enjoy!
You first got to know Haechan through Renjun, and truth be told, you never really liked the guy. He was too loud, too much of a jokester and just loved to get on everyone’s nerves for laughs. You had no idea why a guy like Renjun would even have someone like Haechan as a friend. You tried to keep a distance between you and Haechan since you didn’t have the best impression of him. But he caught on pretty fast and instead of accepting the fact that not everyone had to be his friend, he almost made it his purpose in life to annoy the shit out of you. To Haechan, if you didn’t want to be his friend, then he’d gladly be your enemy. He doesn’t try to break your friendship with Renjun or anything (he isn’t actually evil) but he would make sure to give you a hard time whenever you’re around.
You like studying with the guys because they were all always really willing to help you when you struggle with work. With the exception of Haechan, it’s like he was there only to make sure you felt worse about yourself. “Mark, can you help me with this?” “Oh yeah, of course.” And Haechan would lean over to look at the question you need help with only to chuckle. “What’s so funny?” “You can’t even solve that? Are you stupid?” “You’re an asshole.” “Oh, I know.” And Renjun would hit his head with a pen, “Enough, you literally failed Math too.” Your eyes widened and you retorted, “The audacity to call me stupid when you did worse than me.” “Okay, who cares?! I’m improving!”
Haechan never misses the chance to tease you. And even though you know he usually doesn’t mean any harm, you simply hate it. “Wow, your hair looks different today… Who are you trying to impress?” “You can never just compliment me without trying to get on my nerves can you?” “Me? Complimenting you? Dream on~” He said before he ruffled your hair and ran away, messing up the braids you spent all morning getting right, “HEY! You- GET BacK HERE!”
But you’ve never hated Haechan more than today. You never knew he could be this nosy nor this aggravating.
You have your hood on as you walk into school in the summer heat and you walk briskly with your head down, hoping to reach class as quickly as possible. You’re turning the corner when you bump into someone’s shoulder, you look up to apologise when you realise it was none other than Lee Haechan.
“Watch where you’re going man.” “Fuck off.” “Damn… why so pissy today?” Haechan only grows intrigued and shuffles to block your way as you try to walk away. You keep your head down as you shoved your way past him. “Hey, I was talking to you,” he said as he pulled your hood off, you panicked and scurrily pulls it back on, trying to hide your face. “Don’t do that!” “Why are you even wearing a hoodie anyway, it’s literally so hot today.” “It’s none of your business.” Haechan only pulls your hood again to push your buttons when he finally spots it. And you can tell he saw it because the usual smug grin he wears is wiped off his face.
“Why do you have a bruise on your cheek? What happened?” “Nothing,” you say as you attempt to walk away again, only for Haechan to pull you in the opposite direction and into the janitor’s room.
“Let go of me, you-” “Who did that to you?” “I fell.” “Do you think I’m stupid? Don’t lie to me.” You’ve never seen Haechan so serious before except that one time the boys were debating about if we have one butt or two butts. He adorns a frown on his face and his eyes never leave your face, as if scanning to make sure you’ll tell him the truth. “It’s your new boyfriend isn’t it?” “N-no…” “Did he hit you?” “No, he didn’t. It was just an accident, okay?” “Break up with him.” You stare at Haechan like he’s crazy. “If he’s hurting you, you have to leave him.” “I told you it was an accident. Why do you care so much anyways?” “Oh, is it a CRIME now to be a decent human being?” “Whatever.” You say as you try to leave the room. “Don’t be stupid, if he really did that… If he’s really hurting you, you and I both know it’s not going to be the last time.” You glare at him, you’re so angry you can feel tears pricking at the corners of your eyes. Haechan has no idea what your relationship is like and has no right to tell you what to do. “For the last time, it was an accident. If you can do one nice thing for me today, I would love it if you could just leave me alone.” You tell him with gritted teeth and walk out of the janitor’s room, slamming the door behind you.
Haechan doesn’t talk to you for the rest of the day and you don’t try to interact too much with anyone, other than Renjun. Afterall, he’s the only one who knows the truth. Your boyfriend has really poor control over his anger and when you two would have a small disagreement, it could turn nasty really quickly. He has a habit of throwing things and this time, when he was busy throwing stuff around to vent his anger, something flew and hit you right on your cheek. That’s what caused the bruising, he never tried to hurt you. Your boyfriend loves you, he’ll never do anything to hurt you on purpose.
“What did y’all even fight about this time? Why did he have to throw it at you?” Renjun asked as he gently spread the medical cream on your cheek. “He’s just having a hard time recently…” Renjun only sighs, he’s worried and he hates your boyfriend at this point but nothing really gets through to you. So all he can do is support you emotionally and look out for you in ways he could. “Please… if it gets bad, you can’t stay y/n. It’s not safe.” “I’m fine, I know how to handle him.”
You don’t join the boys to study after school today, all you want to do is go home and sleep these conflicting feelings away, so you do. And when Haechan and Renjun are alone, waiting for the other guys to arrive after their classes, Haechan almost explodes. “You knew about y/n’s boyfriend and you’re not doing anything about it?” “I have no idea what you’re taking about…” Haechan only scoffs, “I saw you helping her with the bruise.” Renjun is searching his mind for another excuse. “Don’t try lying for her, I already saw it.” “What am I supposed to do anyway? She doesn’t listen and she likes him so much…” “Why don’t we jump the guy?” “You’re crazy, have you seen him? Even if we got the guys involve, we might lose.” “So you’re leaving y/n to fend for herself? She’s smaller than all of us.” “He’s not hitting her,” Renjun starts but Haechan doesn’t even give him a chance. “Not yet, no matter what, she already got hurt. That’s bad enough…” Haechan has his hands in his hair and Renjun eyes him carefully.
“Wait… why are you so stressed? I thought you hated her.” “You’re not worried?” “Of course I am, but this is a first for you.” Haechan ruffles his own hair in frustration, “I just have such a bad feeling about this… and contrary to popular belief, I don’t actually hate her.” The rest of the boys soon arrive and Renjun makes Haechan promise not to tell anyone. So he keeps quiet, he knows it’s not his place to expose you like that but he never stopped thinking about you for the rest of the day.
The two of you never got along well but realising your situation changed something in him. He teased you less and quietly looked out for you more, the lack of bruises on you eases him. Damn it, even a smile from you now just makes him feel more at peace. Right now, his purpose had changed. It didn’t matter if you still aren’t fond of him, Haechan just wanted to protect you.
It was like deja vu, Haechan was always one to reach school early. It wasn’t like he loved attending lessons or anything. He simply enjoyed being the first to be in the empty classroom, having some time to himself before the school day officially starts. Moreover, he loved getting his breakfast from the canteen and indulging in it without his mother rushing him like she does at home. He just dropped his bag off at his seat and was even whistling on his way out to order his breakfast when he bumped into someone.
“Oh, sorry I-” but he couldn’t even bring himself to finish his sentence when he looks down and is met with your teary eyes, your face adorning a bruise bigger than the previous one from a few weeks ago. Haechan wanted to say anything to break the silence but he couldn’t even bring himself to speak. What could he say to make you feel better? He was never one to be too kind with his words. You broke the silence first, “H-he hit me.” Haechan could hear his heart shatter. He has never seen you like this. Eyes filled with tears, lips quivering. Your arms wrapped across your chest, almost as if you’re trying to comfort yourself. Even now, he could tell you’re trying to hold back your tears. You might have been small in size but you were always feisty, strong, would not let anyone mess with you. Almost instinctively Haechan pulled you into a gentle hug, patting your shoulder, still thinking of what to say and having nothing else except, “I’m sorry.”
You finally allowed yourself to cry, with Haechan’s body shielding you, you let your emotions go. Haechan didn’t even mind if you were staining his uniform with your tears, he continued patting your shoulder, whispering things like “you’re okay”, “you’re safe” until you calmed down. After that Haechan ran to get his breakfast and even got a set for you as well.
“What do I do now?” you ask after a few moments of silence. Haechan replies with his mouth stuff with bread, “Just fucking leave him, what else do you want to do?” You glance up at him, “But I-” “No, y/n please… You know what’s the right thing to do.” “I’m scared…” Haechan reaches out to put his hand over yours, “You’ll be fine, and I’ll be here. Promise.”
So you did, both Renjun and Haechan sat by you while you broke up with your boyfriend over text that very afternoon. He didn’t take it very well but it doesn’t matter. He even had the audacity to reply, sending you nasty words and insults. Haechan wanted to call him and give him a piece of his mind but Renjun had to tell him not to make matters worse.
From that day on, you were terrified to walk home alone, fearing that your ex would come looking to confront you. So Haechan took it upon himself to accompany you. It was really strange at first since you two were never really close. But you were grateful for him. If he wasn’t so nosy, things might have gotten a lot worse. Haechan still pisses you off from time to time but it’s all just banter. The talks you have while Haechan walks you home made you realise that Haechan isn’t that big of an asshole. That he actually has a mature bone in him, that he cares a lot about those around him, he’s smart and witty. He never fails to make you laugh, even if it comes with teasing.
Eventually, it went from walking you home to watching dramas with you in your living room. Or hanging out and studying in your bedroom. After a couple of months, your mum even invited him to dinner. By then, Haechan whines whenever he has to leave you. “Come on, we’ll see each other tomorrow.” You tell him as he refuses to stop hugging you, “That’s like 10 hours away from you…” “Exactly, that’s less than a day, Haechan.” “Haechan? It’s baby to you, I don’t go by Haechan anymore.” “Stop, I’m not used to it yet…” Haechan finally pulls away just so he can look at you getting all shy.
At some point in time, it was obvious to the both of you that you two very quickly crossed from being enemies, to frenemies, to friends and over to something more. So after being invited to dinner, Haechan confessed to you that very night. And that was it. Nothing much changed really, he still teases you to no end. And you bite back at his comments just as quickly. But now, you two just hold hands and hug from time to time. You two never officially told your friends yet but you’re both sure Renjun already caught on.
Watching you get all shy from his previous comment has Haechan melting and he decides to let you off for now. “Alright, I’ll leave now… I’ll be back in exactly 10 hours!” You laugh at his cheeky expression and jokingly pretend to chase him out of your house. But deep down, you can’t wait to see him again the next morning. He is finally out your door and he gives you one last hug before he leaves, you wave him goodbye until you can’t see him anymore, reminding him to text you when he gets home safely.

extras: slightly aged down characters, a tinge of angst
“c’mon y/n, join the game,” your little brother begged, waving your phone in front of you. “forget it jisung, i’m not gonna play your stupid roblox game.” “please y/n, it’s really fun, i promise.” you let out a loud groan and snatched your phone from his hands, “fine, but just this once,” you warned, “ i can’t believe i let you download this stupid game on my phone.” you joined the ‘adopt me’ game your brother was oh so excited about and customized your character. “so, what am i supposed to do?” you questioned, running around aimlessly. “first, you gotta go to the nursery and collect your starter egg, you can choose either a pet or a baby, then-“ “wait wait wait, a baby? how the heck is a baby hatching from an egg like that?” jisung clicked his tongue and took charge of your phone, now controlling your character, “just let me handle it okay.” you watched attentively, trying your best to understand what he was doing, but decided to let him do what he needed to. after a few minutes, your brother finally returned your phone, having prepared almost everything in the game for you, “here you go, just be careful when you’re trading okay.” “yeah yeah, i got it.” you mumbled, quickly ridding your house of the horrendous decor job your brother had done. little did you know, you should’ve listened to his warning.
you’d eventually gotten the hang of the game, easily doing tasks such as taking care of your pet dog, exploring the area, but most importantly, trading. it came so easy, maybe a little too easy. you were approached a random boy, by the user ‘haechan2006’, asking to borrow your pet for something “super important” and promising to give you a rare item once they’d returned it. you reluctantly agreed, having grown attached to the virtual pet even after playing for only a few minutes. the person happily took your pet and…that was it, they simply took your pet. “what are you doing? that dude just stole your dog!” jisung yelled, “what?! are you serious right now?” you quickly moved your character, running after the scammer who was now way ahead of you. “ugh that bastard! did i seriously just give my dog away? i can’t believe i did that!” you ranted, now getting closer and closer to the culprit. the boy immediately stopped once you’d caught up to him, turning his character to face yours. you angrily typed in the chat: ‘gimme back my dog’, which — much to your dismay — was replaced by a bunch of hashtags. the ‘haechan2006′ user replied with a ‘lol’ that only made your blood boil. you groaned loudly and jisung patted you on the back in an attempt to calm you down, “let me handle it okay.” you took a deep breath, handing your phone over to your brother. after what felt like ages, jisung finally ended his negotiation with the boy, earning him your pet in return. the ‘haechan2006’ ran off and jisung handed your phone back to you, “i got your dog back!” his voice seemed to be filled with glee, but his expression said otherwise. “you okay, ji?” you asked, gently stroking your brother’s hair. he shook his head, face saddening, “i got your dog back, but it was only because i gave mine to him.” that’s it, that ‘haechan2006’ user was going to pay. “don’t worry bud, we’ll get your dog back.” jisung looked up at you, eyes shimmering, “really?” you cooed at his cuteness and lightly pinched his cheek, “promise.”
two days had passed and your plan to get jisung’s dog back was finally in action. you scrolled through the ‘people’ list in the server, searching for ‘haechan2006’. once you’d found him, you sent a friend request eagerly waiting for him to accept it. and he did! “this is too easy,” you mumbled to yourself as you checked your friends list. you teleported to your new friend and approached his avatar with yours before sending in the chat: “wanna trade?” the boy accepted and you both entered the trading screen. after seeing what he was willing to give you, you went back to the chat and sent: “i want the dog back”. the boy immediately said no, about to back down from the trade, but you quickly stopped him, offering him a pretty rare egg. as expected, his greed got the better of him and he resumed the trade. he selected the dog to trade along with some others items, making you laugh to yourself. “oh haechan, greed truly doesn’t get you anywhere,” you traded a normal ground sloth fossil egg with a simple gift and collected your brother’s dog. “take that haechan!” you yelled as you made your avatar run away as fast as possible. “jisung, c’mere quick!” your brother bolted into the room, “what happened?” “i got your dog back!” you squealed, pulling your brother into a tight hug. he hugged you back, the both of you now jumping around, “really? thanks y/n, you’re the best.” “anything to see you happy ji.” you returned to your place on the bed and patted the spot next to you, “c’mon, you can watch me play for a bit before we trade later.” jisung happily crawled onto the bed, snuggling up to your side, he hummed softly before letting out a confused noise. “uhh y/n, that’s not my dog.” “what do you mean? your dog is right here.” he was joking, right? he had to be. jisung leaned in and took a closer look at the item on your phone, then shook his head, “that’s a toy dog.” “HAECHAN!!”
❀ Haechan has a hard time sharing his feelings with JiHo
“I know your game is more interesting than me, but you don’t have to be so obvious about it.” JiHo whined jokingly to the same-aged boy who was sat in front of her. Haechan just hummed and shrugged his shoulders, not even sparing the girl a glance.
They were currently sat on Haechan’s bed with the boy cross-legged in front of her. He was playing a phone game while JiHo sat behind him in a similar fashion and leaning her head against his shoulder. In her position she could just barely watch him play over his shoulder.
The boy hadn’t really said anything to her yet ever since she had entered the room. The silence between them still comfortable, but JiHo would rather have a conversation with Haechan instead of watching him play a mobile game and ignoring her.
Not getting any reaction from the boy, JiHo decided to push herself up from her position - which meant away from Haechan - but as she did she noticed how he slightly tensed up. “Where are you going?” His voice was barely above a whisper which had JiHo grinning. “Why? Do you miss me already?” She tried her best not to laugh at her own teasing words for him. She only got an “annoyed” sigh in return and Haechan focused back on his phone, another round of his game starting.
“If I remember correctly...” JiHo hummed to herself as if she was deep in thought. “You were the one who invited me to hang out, yet here I am getting ignored. Don’t you think that’s a bit rude?” Haechan could feel his stomach fill with guilt, but he really didn’t know how to act at the moment. JiHo let out another chuckle and wrapped her arms around his torso, causing her to pull herself closer to his body. “It’s okay Haechanie, I’m just teasing you.”
A few seconds passed with again no response coming from the boy. JiHo didn’t expect an answer anyway, but the silence this time felt a bit different. This time she noticed how the tapping sound from Haechan’s fingers on his phone stopped. It was completely silent.
“I just don’t want you to go.” He mumbled. A smile creeped its way onto JiHo’s face as she heard the words. She squeezed Haechan a bit closer before making herself more comfortable leaning against his back. “You act like I’m moving to the moon.” “That’s how it feels.”
The dramatic gasp that escaped JiHo’s lips had Haechan’s brows furrow confusion. “All this time you annoy me and tease me, but here you are being all soft-” “No I’m not!” He retaliated. JiHo just gave him a look as to say “Sure, buddy. I totally believe you.”
“Honestly, not gonna lie now, we got so comfortable living together; I was about to start asking you to wash my underwear with the rest of my laundry.” The comment had not only taken Haechan completely of guard, but Johnny as well, who just decided to enter the room. “I-” JiHo threw herself back onto Haechan’s bed, holding her stomach as she couldn’t help but hysterically laugh at both boys’ reactions.
Haechan was downright baffled and his cheeks, as well as the tips of his ears, were turning a bright shade of red. Johnny’s expression on the other hand perfectly conveyed that he heard something he shouldn’t have heard. “Yah! You can’t say things like that!” Haechan stuttered.
“Dude, you’ve know me for what? Six years? We share a dressing room during promotions, we lived together for a while and wouldn’t it only be fair, since I have done your dirty laundry quite often now?” JiHo raised a brow at the boy once she got out of her laughing fit. “Underwear included.” She added quickly.
Johnny silently walked over to his side of the room, observing the two younger members wordlessly, but judgement obvious in his gaze. “Hyung-” “Ah ah, I don’t wanna be part of... whatever this conversation is about.” The older boy dismissed the comment and grabbed his phone charger, for which he entered the room in the first place.
Now that Johnny left the room and the two friends had stopped teasing each other, JiHo and Haechan returned to their original position. JiHo closed her eyes and leaned her body against the boy’s back one again.
“Why do you have to leave?” JiHo let out a small chuckle, not because she found anything funny, but she just didn’t know what to say. “Who’s going to cook for me at 1 at night when I get hungry?” Haechan smirked when the girl slapped his arm at his words. “That’s all I was ever good for to you anyways right?” He quickly told her that wasn’t true, but added, “It was a nice bonus.”
“I technically won’t be going anywhere Haechan ah. You won’t even noticed a difference.” She knew it wasn’t true, but she hoped her words would ease Haechan’s feelings about everything. “I’ll probably be here so often that you’ll get sick of me and want me to leave.” She joked, but Haechan didn’t find it that funny. He grabbed her hand that was resting against his side and let his thumb rub over the soft skin. “I might get sick of you sometimes, but I’d never want you to leave.”
The confession warmed JiHo’s heart. The two of them weren’t the closest between all the members, but they had gotten very comfortable around each other in the time they trained, worked and lived together. Living together was probably what got them so close as they were now. The amount of times they stayed up together playing games into the early morning were countless. They bonded over cooking ramen and making midnight snacks for each other. The duo also spent a lot of time getting on each others nerves, but only in a playful manner, never taking it too far.
It was also Haechan’s bright personality and position as the “mood maker” of the group which had gotten them so comfortable so easily. He was never the type to be shy and liked to make everyone feel welcome in the group. JiHo was convinced it was Haechan who was to credit for not only their friendship but many in the group as well.
Haechan would argue with that, saying that JiHo was just as much to be credited for it. Not only him, but everyone who knows JiHo personally, knows how bright of a person she is. She also isn’t shy at all. She’d talk to anyone and everyone that catches her eyes. She just had a way with people and making people feel good which Haechan admired.
Those years of building a friendship like this had made the whole situation unexpectedly harder than it had to be. And now Haechan absolutely did not know how to cope with it. “I usually never felt like this when I had to change dorms, rooms or anyone else in the group had. But I don’t know... I just never thought you’d be the one.”
“I’m going to miss you JiJi.” Haechan mumbled. A bright smile pulled on the girl’s lips at the mention of the nickname - the nickname JiHo was sure of retired a while ago - and she smiled against Haechan’s shirt. “I’ll miss you too, Haechanie.”
[23:47] “hyuck what are you doing-“ you stopped, your eyes meeting twinkling lights, picnic baskets, and a bouquet of hydrangeas. his grip on your forearm loosens, picking up the bouquet and extending it towards you.
“hyuck, it’s almost midnight. what are we doing here?” you complained, the boy just dragged you out of bed and sneaked you out of a window. but you complied, the boy was too charming to pass up.
“you’re probably gonna forget this in the morning.” he whispered “but for tonight? let’s fall in love.”
you avert your gaze just as barista!haechan winks at you, missing the flirty expression but cheeks heating up nonetheless at just the sight of him. your inner voice, repeat after me. you turn to sit at the seat near the window, farthest from the damned boy that's now out of view. he's ugly, he's not worth your time, you're better than your feelings. none of which are true. all of a sudden, haechan is standing before you, both hands clasping the tray on which your ordered drink sits. he sets the cup upon the table in front of you with nimble fingers and leaves as fast as he came. you're left in a daze, noticing how he's now been sneaking glances in your direction every few seconds. focusing on the real reason why you're here, you take the paper cup within your hands and bring it up to your lips to take a sip, but not before noticing the haphazard writing under the scrawled order, my shift ends in ten, it's a date ;).
can i still request? 😅 if yes then can we have a hyuck x reader drabble 7?? the idea’s so cute 🥺💞
author’s note this kinda got a little away from the original plot so sorry if it’s not what you wanted! sorry for the wait too, here it is:
“Babe, I’m just saying, there are places for this kind of stuff, like, we’re at home now, so you get it all out of your system for when we leave the house.”
His hands stood in front of his chest in the most dramatic way there is, and Donghyuck seemed like he was betrayed in so many forms at that comment of yours.
“Stuff? You’re calling my pillowy-like kisses stuff?”
“I’m calling PDA stuff, not your pillowy-like kisses,” you answer, making sure to stress that weird choice of words of his.
"Fine, I won't kiss you in public places then. For all I care, I won't kiss you for the rest of our relationship if you hate it so much."
He storms out of the dining table to the kitchen, leaving you smiling alone at his childish act.
"You know I didn't mean it like that, you stupid. Just saying like, we're at my parent's house, you don't need to straddle me in the middle of the kitchen while everyone is in there."
"I was going away, forgive me for saying goodbye to you sweetly."
"You were going to the grocery store!"
Hyuck's face scrunched up in the cutest way you couldn't do anything but laugh.
Slowly you make your way to him on the other side of the kitchen, but he catches you and turns away to face his back to you.
"You know I love kissing you, I just think my dad doesn't love the idea as much, that’s all, honey."
You wrap your arms around his waist in a back hug, Donghyuck's arms instinctively resting over yours and fingers being intertwined together.
"Yeah, I kinda get that. If it was our baby girl, no boy would ever be allowed 10 feet closer to her ever..."
He slips out nonchalant as you wide your eyes playfully, but still surprised. He never joked about things like that and although it was nice to hear, it was also a little out of the blue.
He spins around in your embrace, smiling a little and already soft as the previous fight was long forgotten.
"If it was our who?"
His eyes switch focus from one to another of yours and he seems to rethink his words as his lips open and close again a few times.
"Any chance a couple of kisses will erase that off your mind?"
"No way in hell, but you're free to try it out."
He shakes his shoulders, rolling his eyes at you and hugging you back to get your body closer to his.
"Ah, it's okay, we can get to that later."
And still a little shocked, you smile against your crazy boyfriend's lips.
