hey do you have any info on nehebkau? hes been appearing to me many times now and i cant seem to find any other info than that he used to be a negative spirit which makes me wonder if its okay to worship him?
Unfortuantly,I don't know a lot about him. I do know that he is regarded as a very powerful being and involved with the protection of the pharoah in the afterlife and potentially in life as well. (1) He can also serve as a judge of the dead as one spell requests that other gods give them a good recommendation to Nehebkau. (2) Conversely in the Pyramid Texts there is a passage describing how Nehebkau will give a good recommendation of the pharoah to the Two Enneads. (3) He is described as either the son of Serket or of Geb and Renenutet (4) and the consort of Nehemtawy. (5) Worshipping him is completely fine. As early as the Pyramid Texts he is described as helping the pharoah (6) and since at least the Middle Kingdom had a feast day dedicated to him. (7) Further he is used in spells to restore health to victim of venemous bites. (8) He is also depicted on many amulets and seems to have been widely revered in popular religion at least during the Third Intermediate Period. (9) In terms of finding more information about him, I highly recommend searching through JSTOR and Google Scholar. Just searching his name on either site turns up plenty of interesting looking articles.
