Netflix admits downgrading video speed on mobile

Netflix says it has been lowering the quality of its video for customers watching its service on wireless networks such as AT&T and Verizon Communications for more than five years, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday. The company also said it does not downgrade videos for T-Mobile US and Sprint Corp. users because they have "more consumer-friendly policies," the Journal added. In response to requests for comment, Netflix posted a blog on Thursday. In the blog, it said it has limited its video quality for mobile viewers globally, capping it at 600 kilobits-per-second, to protect consumers from exceeding mobile data caps.

We're outraged to learn that Netflix is apparently throttling video for their AT&T customers without their knowledge or consent.

Anyone else having problems with Netflix since their big redesign?

A lot of things on “My List” have completely disappeared, even though when I try to re-queue them, I’m told that they’re actually still on my list. AND, it’s dropping items that I’ve just added. Completely, that I can tell.

It is NOT a matter of just waiting for the images to load on the My List page (which, btw, takes a lot longer now for seemingly no reason). I could have the page on my screen for 30 minutes, and still not see the items that are missing.

Is this a problem on mobile devices, too? I’m on PC, so this shouldn’t be happening; unless they were just so focused on making it work better for mobile, that they forgot (or didn’t care) about the huge number of people who watch things at home.
