I'm still noodling on this, so these thoughts are a bit scrambled but I'm thinking about how most of the companions have dialogue or banter or cutscenes where they misunderstand or project onto Neve.
(Lucanis calls her serious, which she refutes, Bellara obviously idolizes her at first, Taash projects some of their gender issues onto her, Emmrich and Harding both project a bit of their assumptions about Tevinter/city mages - though they're both genuinely curious)
And she takes it all in stride, pushes back the most against being idolized, actually. She's so warm and kind and even silly with this team, doesn't really have outright conflict with any particular member, tries to keep her heart safe (but does that ever work for her?) so of course these people don't understand her at first.
She isn't super cagey - she happily answers Emmrich's questions about Minrathous - unless she's in a romance with Rook, and that also makes so much sense.
And of course she still goes on to form profound bonds with every single member of this team.
