Ocarina of Time! Link Drabble (Sort of AU)
. You only exist briefly, always in the background. Through countless lives, the same person, the same face. Reoccurring, and yet unremarkable. Never spoken to. Never noticed. Not until a boy who can travel through time finds you seven years in the future, living quietly, unseen and yet untouched by the plague that has wreaked the land. For the first time, you are acknowledged. And through your hazy eyes, there's a light sparkle. It's dim, but you let him see you for the briefest of seconds. You are a safe haven in a world completely ripped apart. You have nothing, and are very little, but it's just enough. Just enough to hold on. You are like a seed thought to be dead, but then he waters you with one look from those ocean blue eyes and all of the sudden you're gasping for air and choking on life. And how it grows, and grows and grows. Plucked from the air, a wish seed once uttered a dying breath.
Until you are a being of flesh and bone. Until you no longer ghost over the realm as untouchable as the feathery light of the fairies that used to dance the forest floors, before his father died. Before he was ripped out of the soft ground by his shallow roots and tossed to the side.
And some part of you must've known. Known that you'd shoot up high and grasp onto life, only to dry out in the blinding light of the sun once the clouds parted. Which is what makes it hurt when the world is repaired, and all is there thriving. He wakes in his bed as if it were all just a bad dream. And nothing is wrong. The Kokiri, they laugh and dance and invite him to play. Saria takes his hand and smiles a gentle, tired smile. They dance and dance and dance, and he sits atop a small rock, perched in a field of clovers on the sidelines. The giggles, the laughter, the rustling of healthy leaves and the joy is infectious to every living being, but inside he's... that part of him has died.
