Been thinking about how many images of empty or nearly empty streets we have been seeing and are going to be seeing. And it got me thinking about how I’ve been taking photos like that in Detroit for awhile now. When I started shooting, that was close to the reality of downtown and many areas, especially on the weekends.

Later on, it became more about my preference for shooting at night and quiet places. But for a year or two I was really focused on shooting street images like this with only one or two people, partly because that was typical of that time in Detroit especially in the evening or Sundays.

This photo doesn’t really have anything to do with the coronavirus pandemic other than the fact that I made it on Sunday, but you can’t help but think about it in almost everything you do as it’s affecting everyone’s lives in some way. The New Center area is normally pretty quiet on the weekends anyway, but I did see quite a few people out riding their bikes solo in the span of just a few minutes despite the cold winds.

Not sure what else to say and I’ll probably keep the focus on the photography as it has always been an escape for me. But it’s something that’s on everyone’s minds right now…It will take a lot of adjustments, but we can get through this.
