The witch and the wolves

Echo smelled wolf, not regular wolf, werewolf. She kept bringing tufts of wolf fur from outside, a stray claw here and there, and a tooth once.
And it only started when my neighbors moved in next door. The house had been abandoned for years. Some old superstition, apparently a father went crazy and ripped his family to pieces. Then he ate them. No one has touched the house since.
That’s what the town thinks.
The real story?
Ghouls. Well, one ghoul. The father. The town got three things right, it was the father, the family was ripped to pieces, and he ate them. But what they got wrong was why.
The townspeople thought it was from a mental illness. A random act of a psychotic man.
The real cause was a witch. The father was in an affair with a local witch, his wife found out and made him end the affair. The witch, not wanting her lover to leave her, cursed him. She was trying to bind the man’s soul to his but mixed up the ingredients turning him into a ghoul instead.
Now, eight men moved into the home. The home that is clearly tainted by supernatural blood. I didn’t dare touch the house or go near it.
Walking past made ghost fingers crawl up my spine. I could swear something was staring at me through the boarded up windows.
Now the windows are clean and thrown open most days. Loud laughter rang through the air, bodies tackling each other in the grass. They were happy, and I was happy for them. But I couldn’t help it if I hated that house.
And witches don’t scare easy.
