M88, NGC4501
M88, a symmetrical type Sc spiral galaxy in the constellation Coma Berenices, is a member of the Virgo Cluster of galaxies. This picture is from the KPNO 0.9-meter telescope.

Another member of the Virgo Cluster, M88 is a relatively undisturbed spiral galaxy. However, it won't remain that way for long: it is on a direct collision course with the center of the Virgo Cluster which is currently occupied by M87. In about 200-300 million years, most of its gas and dust will have been stripped by ram pressure stripping, and it will become a lenticular or elliptical galaxy.
