no but what if cas celebrates dean's birthday twice.
like on january 24th, dean's actual birthday, he buys him presents and bakes him his favorite kind of pie and convinces sam that they should decorate the bunker while dean is out. the three of them eat dinner and sing happy birthday while dean rolls his eyes (definitely not trying to hide a blush, psshhh) and blows out the matches sticking out of the pie.
but then a little later in the year, when the anniversary of cas pulling dean out of hell rolls around, cas spends the entire day with his hand in dean's, barely leaving his side except for when either of them has to use the bathroom ("I don't pee in front of the people I'm dating, Cas. That's weird.") and constantly reminding dean of how amazing he is. how much he's accomplished in the thirty-something years that he's been on this earth. how many people are alive because of him. how many people think of him as a savior. how many people love the hell out of him. how much he matters and how much he loves him and how much worse the world would be if he hadn't been resurrected.
and of course, dean would spend the entire day rolling his eyes and telling cas to shut up, that he's not that important, but cas, knowing how much his second birthday means to dean; how much he needs to hear this stuff, even if he won't every admit to it, simply keeps talking; only stopping for a moment to smile when dean holds his hand just a little tighter.
