Forget-Me-Not Blues by noangelsinthegarrison
Summary: Sam and Jess are getting married and Dean couldn’t be any happier for them. Honestly, they’re kind of disgustingly perfect for each other and Dean’s pretty damn excited about staying with them the week before the wedding. He’s Sam’s best man, of course, and he doesn’t even mind that Jess has her own best man to share in all the organisational duties. The more the merrier, right?
Except Dean must have done something to epically piss off the universe because Jess’s best man just happens to be Castiel friggin’ Novak. He’s got even hotter since High School, but apparently no friendlier and if Cas wants to spend the week pretending like they’ve never met before? Fine. Two can play at that game.
Comments: 10/10. I think this is the best combination of angst and fluff. Although it is a bit more on the angst side than the fluffy side. Everything fluffy happens with an undertone of angst. Dean back in high school was in the football team and had a massive crush on nerdy Cas, but his fellow teammates made him bully Cas and he hated every second of it. He makes a big romantic gesture to Cas, which Cas interprets as a cruel prank, and they part on that note. Ten years later, they meet again for Sam and Jess’s wedding. I love how it alternates between Dean and Cas’s POV, and you know what each of them is thinking, and how the misunderstanding came to be. This way, you don’t hate on either one of them for making the other suffer, instead you scream at your phone in frustration. It’s a gigantic misunderstanding, and Cas is dismayed to find that Dean is such a nice guy. It’s great, it’s amazing. Definitely one of the must-reads of the fandom.
