I had so much fun with Dracula Daily that I started #Carmilla Weekly, and while I know this is probably a idiom to say someone is very rich/wished to spare no expense, it is far funnier to take it literally as a casual lore drop.

one of the most heartbreaking things from when i worked at a Big Chain Pet Store (not going to say which one for legal reasons) was the treatment towards mice.
I love mice and rats, so I’ll admit i’m a little biased. but let me tell you, the attitude that management had towards these LIVING, BREATHING creatures was horrifying to me. they were considered as “feeders” (which don’t get me started on live feeding, i could rant for days). I became almost desentized after a while to the utter disregard for them.
Mice came in from the “approved” vendors completely mangled, from inbreeding or fighting in the boxes. This was so common place, and do you know what the procedure was? to do nothing. the company policy said to take them all to the vet, but guess what actually happened? the sick and mangled ones were put into a tank in the back and left to die.
the worst experience for me was finding an overlooked mouse in the sale tank. i pulled her out and looked over her puffy, swollen eyes, her messed up leg (most likely a result of inbreeding), and the huge, green and rotting hole on her chest. i walked into the back and held that poor baby, probably only about 5-6 weeks old, and cried. i pet her, and talked to her, and she died in my hands about three minutes after picking her up. i left work early that day. i had worked there for nearly a year, and after hearing from so many people at different stores that the same shit happened with their locations, i quit a month later.
so yeah, big pet stores do care somewhat about their expensive animals, the ones that are more likely to sell (hamsters, ferrets, guinea pigs, birds, reptiles), but trust me when i say, though the company policies may say different, most of the time no one gives a shit about the poor little mice. the same shit happens to the rats too. no one cared.
Spoilers for Camilla (1796) but I do enjoy this Wikipedia summary of the ending:
i just wanted to share one of my favorite local bands where i live because i think they deserve a lot more recognition. my favorite song by them is called Hollow and i highly recommend listening
