BOSTON SENTINEL
Shrapnel Blast Kills Six
by Ann [Causly?] | [Medical?] Reporter
A shrapnel blast has killed six people believed to be federal agents, police and hospital sources said.
The attack happened shortly after midday as the agents were executing a search warrant in an east-side apartment building. Police said the explosion occurred after the unit was inside, spraying shrapnal across a wide area. The sound of the blast echoed across the city. A witness described a scene of carnage as the agents were suddenly hammered in the blast.
"The force of the explosions threw them off their feet. A fireball enveloped the floor, and shrapnel sprayed into the men," said another witness.
A spokesman for the Federal Bureau of Investigations said that they are investigating the deaths but would not confirm the number nor disclose the identities of the agents.
Conflicting accounts exist over the origin of the blast. Many believe that this could be the work of the 'Boston Shrapnel Bomber' and that the agents were targeted as they closed in on a suspect.
The F.B.I. spokeman declined to speculate on the origin of the blast, stating that it was still under investigation.
