Always thought Adolin would've been an Edgedancer if he'd 'got rid of Maya' which obviously he never would, but he seems more of a Windrunner to me now
Adolin Kholin wasn't a broken man. Not like most of the people he cared about. But over Wind and Truth, the extent of his trauma about abandoning their troops in Kholinar (when only the control building transferred to Shadesmar, not the entire platform) and the trauma of the fond memories of his mother tainted by his father's autobiography soon after becomes clear.
And then I think how he spent the entire time in Shadesmar in Oathbringer taking care of Kaladin and the entire Rhythm of War taking care of Maya, Shallan and whoever needed protection, like Notum. Adolin stuffed all his trauma inside his head so deep people wouldn't even notice. Hell, I hadn't noticed, and Adolin's been my favourite character from the moment he first appeared in The Way of Kings.
He stuffed his own feelings away and strived constantly to make life better for everyone he comes in contact with. Somewhat mirroring Lopen, Adolin protects people from themselves. His instinct to protect is almost as strong as Kaladin's, though in a very different way.
And that's why I am sure he would have been a Windrunner.
