Kamille cut through that part of the neighborhood on almost a daily basis, traveling from one part of the gang’s territory to another, so when something changed, she was aware of it. Usually the changes were small - new flowers planted or bloomed, toys left behind by neighborhood kids, occasionally trash that needed to be picked up. This, however, was none of the above.

She wasn’t in a hurry to get where she was going, so she let herself get sidetracked and skirt across the small park over to the brown shape behind the bushes. She used a branch of the tallest of the bushes to help hold her up as she leaned over probably too far to peer at what she found. “Hello there.”
